Description: Hickory’s Smokehouse is Chester’s authentic American BBQ. Here you can enjoy a traditional style of cooking that has its roots in the US, but that we think deserves to be just as popular over here. Our menu offers two styles of BBQ. The southern-style ‘Smoker’ BBQ uses slow, wood-fired cooking in our specially imported American smoker oven. The northern-style ‘Yankee’ BBQ is cooked over sizzling hot coals. Both styles create unbelievably tender, delicious meat and fish.

“Good BBQ food will have to try again.”

I had heard mixed reviews about this place but as there is a trend for american food on TV the idea of visiting has been nibbling away at me.
I planned a trip to chester which is appx 30-35 min drive from where we live, so it is not exactly on our doorstep. After a long day of shopping we found ourselves walking up for something to eat, only to be told that there was a 2 hour wait!!!!! never heard of that length of time before especially when looking in it didn't seem to be ram packed.
Thankfully enough the friendly waitress said that we could sit outside and get served almost straight away, so although it was around 7pm in november we decided to take a seat in the rather nice external seating area, there are plenty of outdoor heaters and the briskness of the weather was not an issue.

We (Mother, Girlfriend & I) looked at the menu, and ordered drinks. The menu is typical american steak house, we settled on a platter of meats and 3 separate meals, the nice waitress asked us if we were hungry as this was a lot of food, because we had never eaten there before we took her advice and dropped one of the meals.

When the platter arrived we could see what she meant, the portions were large and not what we more commonly encounter as a "sharing" or "taster" platter. The food itself was tasty and hot and cooked very well, we managed to get through it and were already on our way to being full before the mains came out.

I made a mistake of ordering a main that was basically included in the starter instead of something that wasn't included on the platter. But as all the food was nice we got through it, the accompanying fries and coleslaw were great and come in a "bucket" also we liked the large beer mugs.
We just about finished everything apart from a few slices of brisket which we wrapped up for the dog.

When we were outside we were also offered branded blankets if we were too cold but we were not.

The only issue really that bugged me slightly was that the bulbs on the large tree outside kept tripping the fuse and we would be left in partial darkness for short periods of time.

Next time we visit i will definitely be booking ahead to get inside and trying some of the other items on the menu.

“Great food .... Ate too much of it!”
Reviewed November 28, 2012

My husband and I ate at Hickory's along with my parents for my father's birthday. We arrived a little early and it was very busy so the wait in the bar was a little hot, noisy and chaotic however once we were at our table all was good. The booths around the dining area stop the place feeling too big or impersonal, the food was lovely and the service was attentive but not intrusive. Watch out for the portion sizes ... I'd been looking forward to a dessert but after tackling a starter and dessert there was no chance! We'll definitely visit again but it does get very busy so be sure o book.

Well what can I say?! Went here after a stroll around Chester, came across it by accident really. But we were hungry so thought we might aswell give it a try. I had the whole sea bass and my partner had the XXXXL burger. Both were delicious! we also had waffles and cookies for desserts, again they were delicious! you MUST go here!! It was really busy, I wont lie but the food and service were both excellent. The atmosphere was amazing too.

Definately be returning

Can't fault this place - especially good for families. Book in advance on busy summer days and weekends.

“Amazing amazing food”
Reviewed November 25, 2012

Went as I had never tried before, it was very very busy and were offered a table at the grills on a sort if diner bar but it was far too hot and uncomfortable so we were moved outside which wasn't bad as it was pleasant and not cold. Although the place was very bust out drinks and food dud not take very long and my steak was cooked to perfection. The food was very expensive so it is only a treat for me, understandable because the meat was perfect but the chips were average and my peppercorn sauce had a huge skin on the top. However the staff are amazing and the milkshake s are beautiful!
