The Bull and Stirrup Hotel
Reviewed June 30, 2012

visited this excellent hotel whilst staying at the nearby travelodge. we were made to feel welcome by the new manager ,dave and were so impressed we stayed overnight on our way back to leeds from wales. OK , the rooms were a bit tired but an upgrade is on the way. breakfast was continental but we were well looked after by beth and there was as much tea and toast as you could eat . one bonus is the spacious and free car park as our two nights at the travelodge cost £20 in the local council run carpark. great location and at £60 per room excellent value for money.not yet double glazed so some traffic noise and noise from late night revellers , but it was chester races when we visited

We stayed at the bull and stirrup during rememberance week end ,what a farce!.we were billeted on the top floor not bad for a couple of old comrades climbing all those stairs, the central heating did not work in the room (would have been warmer in the trenches) the floor was sticky to walk on ,no carpets just lino, there were empty beer cans on the balcony out side our window ,we found two dead blue bottles down the side of the bedside lockers (they would need snow shoes to walk through the dust!) we paid £65-00 per night for B&B not realising that it was a continental breakfast, not bad for a bowl of cereal a slice and a half of toast and a brew, all in all the room needed a good clean out the good side of the review is the location ,there was a lovely cafe a couple of hundreds of yards away.

We stayed here in May 2011. This place is value for money. We had a family room sleeping 3. Room, bathroom and towels were all clean and smelled fresh. Breakfast was the full English and there was more than enough. Even though the Hotel is on a corner we were not troubled by noise at night. Great position for visiting the wall and other sights. Free parking was a plus.

we chose this place because its perfectly placed for going to telfords warehouse where we enjoyed the brilliant jon amour and his blues band.thanky god they were fab, because the hotel was far less decent than other reviews made out , even for £65 a night it was a dump. the whole hotel stinks of fags we assumed this is because the place probably needed a steam clean post non smoking law but turns out people still smoke in the public areas as we saw this morning .illegal now but gives you an idea why the place stinks to high heaven. the room was less than basic, cups in the bathroom had old toothpaste stains in it , the bathroom floor had gum on it and was generally old fashioned and grim. the light over the sink didnt work. the furniture has knobs and locks missing. no carpet in the room but horrible lino not properly cleaned around the cabinets without rugs either side of the bed. there were no pictures on the wall to try and at least attempt brighten up this ugly room. thank god i didnt wake up with a hangover or it would have been completely nightmarish. when you go out at night you have to hand in your bedroom door key to the staff and phone them up to come back in....dont loose your phone you might be out on the step all night,,we got let in at 1.30 without hassle but found the system entirely weird.
breakfast was served in the back bar of the pub by an old lady who was opperating in panic mode from start to finnish . we had 'continenal breakfast which is basically toast jam and yogurts, cerial , help yourself style which was ok . however the table we were allocated was to be joined by other guests. i dont like to have my breakfast in the morning opposite faces i dont know. the old lady sorted it out even though she seemed put out by it. frankly i think we should have haggled the price but what with the guy smoking in the bar straight after breakfast on a sunday morning we couldnt wait to get out of there. in summary if you cant find anything better take your own plug in air freshener and antibacterial wipes. and gentlemen if you are thinking about taking your wife for a romantic trip avoid this hotel as a divorce is very costly!!!

Room Tip: dont bother paying for anything until youve seen
