We stayed here for a night away. I booked a desirable room which was disappointing to say the least - the bathroom was spacious enough due to the fact it didnt have a bath in it!! Shower only, which only went luke warm with water pressure I would expect to see in a 2* hotel. We had lunch in cafe bar and grill, the waitress was nervous but friendly, the chef was rude to the waitress which we witnessed and did not find very professional. The food was lovely. Breakfast was whole other experience - we were sat down quite quickly however the waitress was short and almost rude when taking our breakfast order. It wasnt until 40 minutes later when we enquired about out breakfast that it became apparent we had been forgotten about. The manager did apologise however when our breakfast was brought out the bacon was undercooked with bits on tinfoil on it, the mushroom(1 each) was cold, tomato cold - the only hot things were the sausage, black pudding and egg. Overall disappointing for the cost. Would not go back.

We stayed at the hotel as part of a fantastic family get together in Chester. We had a wonderful stay and the upgrade from an enviable room to a suite was an inspired choice indeed, as the room was fabulous and really well designed. It was nice to go out on the balcony to have a relaxing late night drink after spending the day with our family in Chester. The second day we had a leisurely start and made use of the featured free standing bath before heading down to a really good breakfast in the Dining Room where the service was once again excellent with the staff being very friendly and knowledgeable about what to do and see in Chester. We went for a walk through Grosvenor Park and then on a river cruise before heading into the town centre and the shops where I left my husband to his coffee and paper whilst I shopped !! I would wholeheardedly recommend both Chester and indeed the Abode as a great destination for a short break.

Room Tip: Ask about cost of upgrades-you may be lucky

We have stayed at The Abode before in a "comfortable" room which was spacious, modern and well equipped. On this occasion we stayed in one of the 3 Fabulous suites on the sixth floor and it lived up to it's name ! Panoramic views from the large balcony, rolltop bath, double shower, sitting area and the biggest bed I have ever seen or slept in !
Attentive staff on reception and in the restaurant. Secure parking beneath the hotel and within 5 minutes from the city centre. Well worth staying in this modern and stylish hotel.

We booked the room through 'secret rooms' on the late rooms website so did not know which hotel we were booking at the time. I still think from reading all the reviews that had we known it was this hotel we still would have booked it. We knew that we had got it at a bargain rate compared to its usual prices but it was still a lot more then we would generally pay for a hotel but decided to go ahead on this one occasion. We really wish we hadn't bothered. It was worse then any of the travel lodges that we have stayed in before. The room was really small which was a dissapointment considering all the photos of large rooms even for the lowest price. There was a long window which could not be opened so we only had air-conditioning which was not satisfactory and it resulted in the room being too hot to sleep in. We paid for the breakfast at the time of booking the rooms and really wished we hadnt bothered. The full english was over cooked both mornings with the bacon being so tough that we had to pick it up to eat it rather then use a knife.
The only saving grace was that the bed was comfortable but unfortunately due to the temperature of the room we were unable to sleep in the same!

Room Tip: Apparently you can request a room with a balcony

Dear 187069 Steph,

I am sorry to read that you were disappointed with the airconditioning and the quality of breakfast.

To preserve energy, the temperature control was set to switch off automatically at noon and is switched on again on check in. With the recent sunny weather, the front facing rooms have been getting quite hot during the day and it takes a while for the airconditioning to kick in after arrival. We have now reset the system to ensure that the rooms are cooled all day so that they are of a pleasant temperature on arrival.

All our breakfast are cooked to order and I apologise for the poor quality you experienced. Our Executive Chef is addressing the issues you mentioned to ensure the quality of our breakfasts.

Thank you for your feedback as it helps us to consistently monitor and improve the quality of our service.

I do hope you will allow us the opportunity to restore your faith in the ABode Chester by visiting us again. On that occasion, please contact me directly so that I can personally ensure you have a wonderful stay.

Regards,

Maarten van der Velde

We have visited Michael Caines in Manchester and decided that a valentines trip to Chester would be fun. The parking was a little complicated, but then Chester is complicated when it comes to driving. The staff were very helpful and welcoming. The room was specatular although taking a pee whilst over looking the acecourse was a little disconcerting - I wasn't sure if people could see in - didn't gamble with it and drew the curtain. The views of the racecourse and beyond were stunning and the design of the hotel is amazing - a full wall window to the world.
As always I was wowed by the food. Super city hotel, but not the most romantic weekend. Still felt a little cold an business like but I guess you get that in a city.
I would strongly recommend for food and design of hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a racecourse view

Second time I've stayed here. The first in December was below expectation.

Stayed again this week because the Grosvenor Pulford was full.

Big room and bed but poor lighting in bathroom. No mobile signal and no windows that open. Dirty iron. Limited breakfast choice and slow service. Large queue to checkout, they didn't even care enough to ask whether I'd had a good stay.

Free parking was good though.

Stayed here for the weekend last minute on bank holiday. Lovely hotel and view from the room. Considering it was a bnak holiday the Michelin restaurant was shut which was one of the main reasons i booked as we wanted to try the restaurant ended up in the italian over the road which i fully recommend. Breakfast was lovely . easy to check in and out. Had to pay for parking underneath the hotel £10 which i dont agree with . Easy access to the centre of chester and especially the race course
