“Whats a steak supplement!!! it costs 3.25”
Reviewed September 17, 2012

When my husband and I visited this cafe we were drawn in by the offer on the board outside offering 2 courses for 16.95, we orded the steak dish and asked for chips with it assuming they would take the new potatos of the plate and replace them with the chips, when the food arrived there were new potatos on the plate and chips in a side dish but we didnt want to make a fuss so we eat our meals and had dessert, when we received the bill of 51.10 we just payed and left but the next morning when I checked the receipt I found we had been charged 3.25 each for a steak supplement but hadnt had any sauces which I assumed it must of been for so I phoned the cafe I was informed that they charge supplements on the steak, prawns and the rabbit and it was on the menu which wasnt clear as we didnt see it so on top of the 16.95 each we were willing to pay for our meal they also charged us 3.25 each for steak supplement and 2.50 each for chips that we wanted instead of the pototas thats an extra 11.50 thanks alot great job

“Not for large parties”
Reviewed September 15, 2012

We booked this for 12 people, they have an offer of a bottle of wine per couple but its limited to 2 bottles per table no matter how many guests. Strange really, perhaps we should have booked for 3 tables of 4!! As there were going to make quite a bit of money from us we asked for just 1 more bottle of wine for the table but this was refused outright, bit mean really. The starters were very nice, but I don't think they are equipped to deal with large tables as the mains came out in dribs and drabs, the sauces came out last when the steaks were almost eaten and the veg came out late too, talking of which you have to pay an extra couple of quid if you want any veg with your meal. All in all I think they are not customer friendly, don't seem bothered to encourage loyal custom and can't cope with any more than 4 at a table. They also added a big service charge to the bill and wouldn't take it off. Would definitely not return.

“Food not great, sounded better than it tasted !”
Reviewed September 11, 2012

While walking along the riverside we came across the Blue Moon, the menu outside enticed us inside as the menu said homecooked food and sounded better than your normal fast food type pubs, both are meals were poor, my wifes was part burnt, mine would have been suitable for an infant as it must have been reheated and had turned to to a mush and it came in a small bowl pretty poor value for around £8 each, we would not recomend it.

“Sorry but.....I hope the owner reads this and cares enough to fix it.”
Reviewed September 9, 2012

The Blue Moon was on our list of places to visit for along time. Sorry but..so very disappointed.
Two of us called in for breakfast on Sunday 26 August. Only 2 other tables were occupied. We sat at the window table, great view of the river. Regrettably, the only other good points were the Coffee, which was excellent and, the Bacon, which was tasty. There was no welcome or even a greeting from the young lady behind the till. The eggs were the smallest we have ever been served and were cooked rock hard. The portions of baked beans was less than a tablespoon. All the tables around us were dirty with crumbs, coffee puddles etc Tea was served as just a teabag plonked in a cup of hot water. No teapot, nowhere to put the used teabag. The waiter had his jeans hanging so low we had an extensive view of his baggy green underpants. Overall, we both fell that, for the quantity and quality of food served, and the level of service provided, the total price paid, (£17.35) was a real rip-off. Both of us are locals and feel embarrassed to think that visitors to Chester could be offered standards this low. Please, please, fix it.

“We had a great birthday party dinner”
Reviewed September 2, 2012

I booked the restaurant couple of months ago for a birthday dinner for around 30 people, and from the beginning we had personal service and great flexibility to meet our needs. I did know the restaurant well beforehand, with its quirky 50's decor and its metamorphosis around 7.30 pm from cosy cafe to mediterranean-style bistro. It's a stunning location by the river, and we were lucky enough to have a sunny evening, so guests had their drinks outside before the meal. The food was delicious, and the vegan/vegetarians in our party were as well catered for as everyone else, The tables were attractively laid out, and the staff were very helpful and quick in responding to what people wanted. It was a tiny bit cramped -- which was what we'd expected, as we were pushing the capacity to the limit -- and particularly because we'd squeezed in a performance by the amazing singing trio The Harmonettes alongside the dinner tables. The lack of much space didn't detract however, and maybe it even heped the atmosphere. All in all a great combination of a relaxed and atmospheric venue with lovely food, and we'll definitely be back.
