Nice atmosphere hides the poor food. Very oily currys, and bad stomachs afterwards. The service is poor. This restaurant is far busier than it deserves.

This is a rare gem of an Indian restaurant. It's only got a limited number of tables and quite a few people had to come back later. It's always busy.

The food is first class, Easily equal to the best I've eaten in the UK (and some parts of India!) It's a very slick affair, plenty of waiters to take care of business and a manager who's obviously been in the trade for a long time.

Book ahead and eat your fill of quality food.

Visited on a Saturday night, had already telephoned to reserve a table, and found it very busy. Friendly staff but it is a bit old fashioned, booths with tables for up to four people along one walldownstairs and a row of tables along the other wall, reminded us of the 8o's. Food was fantastic, the menu is the same that you get in a lot of Indian restaurants but the actual food was cooked very well indeed and the portions were enormous, much bigger portions than we see in the North East of England. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening in here and if in Chester again then we would probably pay another visit.

Just a standard Indian restaurant, the food is ok, nothing special. Service is very good and fast. a little bit expensive too, barton rouge around the corner is slightly cheaper and much nicer

We visited the Gate of India as part of a Saturday night out with friends. Have to say the food was very disappointing especially the lamb in the bhuna, don't think I've ever had lamb that chewy before. Sauces were quite flavourless and runny too and food was more lukewarm than hot when it arrived at the table. Service was fairly slow and not particularly friendly. Not a great experience and we won't be returning.
