Walking the walls provides a lovely walk around the city center without the hassle of crossing busy roads . Interesting views of Chester Race Course and the city center.
Lots of steps !!

Walking along parts of the wall is one of the best ways I found to see the highlights of Chester. I specifically walked between the Cathedral, over Eastgate and down to the Castle. At regular intervals there are information boards depicting where you are, its significance, and what you can see from your vantage point. My highlight of the walls was standing overlooking the Roman Amphitheater, however as the sun came out and you are overlooking the River Dee, this is also full of charm.

It is free, parts of it are scenic (see photos) and walking is good exercise. Relics from the Roman Empire with the remains of a Roman amphitheatre in view during a part of the walk on the wall. The town of Chester itself is a lovely place to visit.

This is a very pleasant thing to do. So much to see and a different perspective of Chester. Lots of stop off points. Can walk as much or as little of the wall as you have time for.
