What a pleasure. We walked the wall on a lovely, sunny September day. Should be compulsary for all visitors to Chester.

After many visits to Chester we at last got to walk the wall instead of the shops well worth spending the time to see the views.

We live locally and often take the opportunity to walk the walls. There are great photo shoots at various places including the wonderful Eastgate clock, the racecourse, black & white buildings, Roman architecture, old and new Chester etc, etc. If you visit Chester do the walls if you can

Before cars and one-way systems, Chester would have felt this way.
See where the port was to sail out to Ireland, Check out the roman remains.
Repel the Welsh invasion force as it crosses the river (ignore the large modern bridge)
or just watch the locals playing cricket (terrible wicket apparently), and admire the cathedral
It all looks and sounds better from the walls.

Originally built by the Romans, the walls themselves were repaired and improved last in the early 1600s, and Chester got lucky in that they were too badly damaged in the civil war, and could be easily repaired. Many English castles did not survive.
Marvellous, and you can be round in just over and hour and all have a well-earned tea and cakes stop.

English Civil War re-enactors were in town the day we were there which increased the atmosphere no-end
