Actually, quite a lot of Roman history, and some Civil War history too. Chester is one of the few surviving walled cities in Europe, and the walk round the walls is a fascinating way to see the city. From the time of the Roman occupation, Chester has enjoyed a prominent role, and has known its share of warfare in different forms until fairly recently. As you walk around the walls, it does not take much imagination to conjure up the important part they played in keeping out potential marauders such as the Welsh. Judging by the proliferation of Welsh accents in the city, they are not now doing such a good job. Back to the walls: the views are magnificent, with many interesting towers including the King Charles Tower. A very good experience all round.
