Well sign posted and gives you good views of the city. Helpful signs to explain the history. Stop off on the way at the rows to shop.

Ok, I admit that I am biased - I spent the first 11 years of my life in Chester and walked parts of the walls regularly

Coming back decades later and appreciating the history of the city and the walls provided me with a different perspective, a much better understanding of the significance of Chester through (at least) the last two thousand years of British history and the monumental job of maintaining the walls. There are useful information plaques at each of the gates and other notable points around the walls.

I have some mobility problems but managed to make it round the entire two mile circuit. Wheelchairs users would have a much, much tougher time though as there are few flat access points and various sections with steps.

The views of the city, cathedral, river and race course are excellent and there are plenty of places around the walls to stop for a drink or a meal. It would be a real shame to come to Chester and not take a stroll along even a short section of the wall.

Especially if you are walking the walls with children I would recommend the smartphone app "Walls Quest" to keep things interesting. But get it before hand and while on wifi as the download includes audio and video that could kill your download limit and take ages via 3G.

Took you easily to areas you went to Chester to visit and easy to navigate. Lovely walk but we were lucky with the weather!

It's on the way to work, so I can't really avoid it. However the first time I came to Chester, I walked the walls and was impressed by the sense of past which grabs you at ever twist and turn. Take the time to pop into the Tourist Information Centre by the Town Hall and pick up a worksheet to accompany your walk, this will bring the walls to life.
