A fantastic places to stop and imbibe some fine ales. established in a truly histroric building dating from at least 17th century , the bar appearing to be located in a massive stone fireplace , selling a number of local hand crafted ales,, nowt from interbrew in site ,, how it should be.

This is a rare combination of a first rate pub, with a first class menu. The pub has a wide selection of local real ales, set in a high ceilinged Jacobean Great Hall. It has a real local feel, with folk of all ages chatting away. The huge original fireplace is the backdrop to the bar. (The original timbered outside walls had to be clad with brick by decree, after the Great Fire in London)
The food is some of the best I've eaten anywhere, and ridiculously good value for money.
My all time favourite Chester pub was the Boot, but I may have to reconsider.

Eaten at a number of restaurants around Chester and Liverpool, but the Brewery Tap is both on the less expensive side and some of the best food I've had (it's hearty, British food but that doesn't mean typical pub or greasy spoon type). I'm into locally sourced food and other products, the Brewery Tap is all about real food and ale. The bartender was friendly and had great suggestions for the menu! Their menu changes daily I believe. We had pork, which comes from heritage breed pigs that are fed the left over hops at their brewery!!! They sure tasted like happy pigs....

The building is beautiful with a lot of history, and they've got no television or music so it's perfect for a romantic night or gathering with friends!

Just the place to hole up with the paper, a pint and a sarnie; good selection of all. It was nice to have a light, airy pub; without the cram of stag-nighters (although we were there at lunchtime)
