Found this on our CAMra app and what a find. Historic building with the most amazing fireplace behind the bar ( worth the visit alone).
Really extensive selection of local real ales and beers from further afield.
Friendly atmosphere, crowed the night we were in - no surprises there!
Can't comment on the food, but it seemed popular

Called in for lunch and a couple of pints. Food is good pub standard. Beers are excellent with a large choice. If you are in Chester well worth visiting. Very interesting building as well.

Dayout in Chester and fancied lunch. Tried a nearby 'Smokehouse' only to be given the 'no tables for at least 30 minutes' speech while looking at a half empty restaurant. Fortunately they made no attempt to keep our custom and we remembered that The Brewery Tap was close by and eat there instead.

It almost goes without saying that the beers we chose were of the highest quality, but the added benefit here is the range and quality of the food. My wife had chicken and tounge pie which was obviously home made with a real pastry crust and large tender pieces of meat in a delicious gravy. I opted for the Lamb shoulder which came perfectly cooked, stripped off the bone in mouthwateringly tender. I couldn't resist a side order of their wonderful huge chips that are almost a meal in themselves.

The ambience in the Brewery Tap is also were pleasant with at the time of our visit an eclectic mix of visitors to Chester and some local beer lovers and very positively from our perspective there was no background music.

The entire meal including drinks came to less than £30 and was worth considerably more making for a very enjoyable lunch experience. Thanks to everyone at The Brewery Tap and thanks to the unwelcome at The Smokehouse for facilitating our visit
