The Brewery Tap is owned by a farmer who has his own brewery, so there's plenty of good real ale and substantial meals with ingredients mainly from the farm. Charles I stayed in the building before fleeing to France, so there's plenty of atmosphere in the vaulted, tapestry hung main room. The helpings are generous, the food is tasty and the menu varied. There's no tv, but newspapers and magazines if you pop in for a coffee in the morning. A great place to drink, meet a friend for coffee, or have a meal.

The choice of real ales is what makes this place famous but the food is reasonably priced and very good.

Had a fantastic beer here last night, but was disappointed with the portion sizes. Fish pie was not bad, although no accompanying vegetables. Mushrooms on toast with Cheshire cheese was less volume than a sandwich so very disappointed for a £9.50 main course: one small slice of bread and about 5 small mushrooms, dribble of cheese and some leaves. Sandwiches are £5.50: I reckon I would have got more with one of those. Sausage and mash had a reasonable three sausages, but small quantity of mash and no other vegetables. They did not offer to increase my portion size when I complained.
