“Excellent placed hotel only a short walk from the railway station.”
Reviewed July 5, 2013

I have had reason to stay here on business twice in the last two weeks and as ever it does what it says on the tin. The room I had for the first stay had a pleasant walk in shower instead of a bath, which was better than the usual bath/shower. As ever the rooms were bright and acceptable and all staff members friendly and helpful. Simon on reception welcomed me back by name before I had checked in on my second visit, which was very welcoming. My room for the first week was at the back of the hotel and was very quiet, the room this week was at the front of the hotel facing the road, however noise from outside was not a problem as the room seemed well soundproofed. The air con/heating unit was very good and certainly kept the temperature of the room down to a nice cool level this week.
The only thing that was badly designed in this particular Premier was that the kettle and tea/coffee making facilities were placed where the illuminated mirror and hairdryer is. The mirror gets misted up from the kettle and there is no room to put anything that you may want to use by the decent lighted mirror, but the other side of the unit was completely empty. Other Premiers that I have recently visited have the tea/coffee etc on the opposite side to the mirror, which makes far more sense.

The restaurant on site is quite acceptable, bright and airy. The only downside is it would be nice if the restaurant did “lite bites” for example jacket potatoes, or maybe another couple of dishes with potatoes and vegetables instead of what seemed to be chips with most things. Although the food is fine, it is “pub grub”, which for an evening or so is fine but for 5 nights over the last two weeks I fancied a change, without having to go out of the hotel though. I did have a pizza and be warned it is far more than one person can eat on their own.

It was not an issue as the restaurant was not busy, but for some reason my answer to the automatic text received from the Premier to book my table for dinner for my first nights stay each time was not then forwarded to the restaurant. This could have been an issue if the restaurant had been full though, but only a minor hiccup.

As ever you always know what to expect at a Premier, and I have no hesitation in recommending this one.

Room Tip: Worth asking for a room with a shower not just the usual bath/shower option

Overall a very pleasant stay although the walk from the train station was a little longer than expected as the website seemed to suggest it was across the road. (I'm disabled and find walking difficult).
I suppose it's not to far from the city centre though the linking subway system is not a place I would contemplate at night so crossing a few roads would be a better option. Not the hotels problem I understand but still a consideration for people thinking along the same lines as myself.
Back to the hotel though, I suppose the food was reasonably priced although nothing to set the taste buds on fire, I've had worse and paid more plus there are other options (if Chester can boast one thing it is plenty of very good restaurants)
The staff were very helpful and friendly though the young lad was a little quiet.
I did feel aggrieved to pay £3 per day Internet however as only 30mins per day are allowed. Not a practise I have had elsewhere.
What was wrong with toilet paper on a roll? These little single sheet dispensers may save money but if it clogs and you lose the next sheet, god help you opening the case, when that tower falls you will never get it back together! (Job for the cleaner I'm afraid!)
As for the room, very comfortable and Lenny was right a great nights sleep in a comfortable bed no argument.
Definitely use Premier Inn again but sort the Internet out!

Room Tip: 2nd floor is my experience, all very good (2 rooms used)

Usual good standard from premier inn.

However room 15 is next to main door to ground floor and one can hear the door closing and the guests walking along the creaking main corridor. I would ask not to be accommodated in this room, also it was a zip-and-link joined up mattress which we did not enjoy. Come on Premier Inn you can do better!

Also, if travelling by car, the hotel has only 15 or so parking slots (chargeable) on site, these often get filled by mid morning resulting in he nearest car park at the station (chargeable) being a 10 minute walk on the day in pouring rain ( probably often beng in the NW! ). So drop your bags off first!

On street parking is limited in availability and to a max of 1 hour but if lucky and get space it's free from 1800-0800 hrs so can park until 0900 hrs which will suit those on business but not on hols if a lie in in planned!

That aside, the location is good but there is a vagrant filled underpass which one has to use to walk into town which my other half did NOT enjoy when she had to 'run' through it in the middle of the day. (something for Chester Council methinks!)

All things considered its good with quality eateries nearby and a convenient location. Good A/C, breakfast and showers, just ask for quiet rooms. Nice poached eggs cooked to order.

Comfy and clean rooms, excellent reception service and close to all amenities, what more could you require. Add to the central location and being in the heart of chester, truly a good stay for the money paid.

1st time staying in a Premier Inn and we cant wait to go again. Lovely place, beautiful room, and a lovely breakfast. We found the staff here so friendly and pleasant. Especially the young guy in the bar and dining room (we forgot to get his name) who was training. He had such a lovely manner, a credit to the hotel. The races were on while we were there so it was very busy but like someone else mentioned, we never felt rushed or *invisable*. We ate out in the evening but next time we,ll definately have our evening meal at the hotel because the menu looked really nice and the wine was a lot more reasonable than what we paid in the place we went to. Cant fault this Hotel at all, convenient for shops, bars restaurants and yes we certainly had an excellent nights sleep. Loved it.

Premier Inn in the centre of Chester is very convenient for shops, restaurants and tourist sites. Only a short walk from the main railway station. Even though the hotel was busy because horse racing was taking place at the nearby course there was no feeling of being rushed. Comfortable bed in spacious room and a walk-in shower. Because of the races the prices were higher but they were still reasonable compared with other hotels. Could eat in the revamped bar area but plenty of good restaurants around. Also convenient for visiting parts of north Wales. Car park rather small but can park in street outside overnight from 6pm to 9am or there is a car park nearer the station which chargesd 50p an hour or £2.90 all day.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are quieter.

Had a great stay to celebrate a friends 40th, room was clean and bed comfortable. Staff were very friendly and helpful, location was short walk from walls and shopping area, didn't eat in the restaurant, but looked nice and only recently refurbished. Lots of great restaurants nearby, would recommend the Thai which is literally up the street. If driving would recommend booking the car park in advance, I parked up the street on a 24 hour car park, but it ran out at 11.59pm so had to go at midnight to replace the pay and display ticket.
My only negative comment, which was fed back to the hotel at the time, is that on our last night, we decided to stay at the hotel and drank in the bar, when we went to get another drink the bar had closed and the bar staff on duty had not advised us of this i.e. giving us an opportunity to have one last drink (it was 11.20pm when we discovered the bar was closed so not massively late). They apologised at the time, but I would recommend checking what time the bar closes as this was not clear (think demand rules).
