“Nearly very good”
Reviewed August 17, 2011

Looks lovely, and staff/owners very friendly, but something lacking, no background music and was quite uncomfortable being the only ones in there, so went over to the Greyhound. Dinner looked good, but didn't try as already eaten. Rooms looked OK and was clean but cheap furnishings, loved the wallpaper. Slept very well, good bed and fresh bedding. No mirror in main bedroom. Only small window opened, and could probably do with part window manifestations in the bedroom, so you don't have to keep the curtains closed whilst dressing. Breakfast not over the top, size wise, and porridge very bland.

Only been open 3 months, so has lots of room for improvement. Think is will go up to to 4-5 star in the future., but currently the £85 is too much, more like £65.

Room Tip: Back rooms over kitchens and carpark, so get front rooms

Stopped at this little watering hole for a drink after a 3 mile walk along the river Dee. Wanted to sit out and enjoy the last of the afternoon and were guided around to the patio area at the rear. Ordered 3 soft drinks then we decided to have something to eat and chose 3 club sandwiches, very tasty.
Decided that was too good not to have a coffee and something sweet, but got a bit chilly so went inside.
Tastefully decorated interior and comfy seats, ordered a cafatiere coffee with warm fruit cake and plum sauce and ice cream...... deeeee...lish !

Would defo recommend to anyone if passing.

We stumbled across this Bistro come pub whilst seeking a a place to stay from the hustle & bustle of Chester.
Well, what a pleasant start. Lovely warm welcome by a youthful Yvonne, with a tea tray offered in their spacious lounge.I declined & had a swift half of their local brew.
The first thing that hit us was the cleanliness of the rooms. Our huge bedroom needed for nothing; robes, power shower & a great sleep on a huge bed.
We ate in Chester the first night, then dinned in on the second---I wish we'd dinned in both nights!
Good choice of menu to please everybody. We went for the mixed Platter to start then chose of the specials for the main. My John Dory was cooked just right whilst my wife's lamb was cooked just pink as it should be. A good selection of properly cooked veggies of the season was spot on too! It was obvious that there was commitment & knowledge in this kitchen.
The service was attentive & correct without being in your face
We noticed a good turn out from the locals which says it all!
Overall, a great find just outside a fine City. We will be back.

Room Tip: They have huge family rooms if you bring the kids.

My wife and I stayed for one night having booked via Late Rooms Website.
We arrived earlier than anticipated, but this was not a problem as Yvonne gave us a brilliant welcome and although on her way elsewhere, took the time to ensure we were settled in. She and her husband took over the 'Farndon Arms' only a few months ago and, judging from her own high standard of customer service, they are likely to do well here. It is handily located for visiting Chester, while a 5-minute stroll over the historic bridge over the River Dee will take you over the border into Wales.

My only (minor) complaint is that Late Rooms described our Room as having a River view which was not the case.

I spent the last weekend in the Farndon and right from the start the owners and also the staff were making me feel more than welcome. It is a great place away from home. I had a lovely quiet double room and evening meal and breakfast were well prepared. I would very happily go back.

Thanks so much for looking after me so well!

I had the pleasure of finding somewhere to house 14 excited hens over a race meeting weekend in Chester... not as easy as you might think! But finidng the Farndon made my life so much easier- great location, great service, great rooms, great food, exceptional customer service and a laid back atmosphere helped us feel at home and ready to party. The race day package was excellent value for money- including transport, champagne breakfast and 2 night accomodation. A great weekend was had by all- even the rain didn't ruin it! Would recommend for any one- a group, couples, family reunion- brilliant!

Room Tip: Ask about the Race day package- excellent.

Booked this hotel based on the previous reviews, hotel location was perfect for us, far enough into the countryside whilst being close enough for both Chester and Wrexham.

Bedroom and bathroom were large and pleasantly decorated whilst being very clean, shower was also very powerful.

On our first night we ate at the hotel, the food was excellent, reasonably priced and unhurried, the atmosphere was good and we felt very comfortable, our intention was to travel into Chester the next evening, however we enjoyed the previous evening and decided to eat here again, we had the same experience as the previous night.

Breakfast was plentiful, tasty and again unhurried, The staff, from the moment we arrived to leaving were very welcoming and attentive. All in all we would definitely recommend this hotel for a relaxing break , we will be returning hopefully later in the year.
