“Great fun for a party”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 31, 2014

We were in Chester to celebrate two family birthdays on Saturday Jan 25th. Our rellies, who live close to Chester, organised the event at the Teppanyaki Restaurant as they could recommend the humour and party atmosphere - and the food - at this City Road eatery by the canal.

It was certainly a lively, fun-filled evening for all 14 of us - spanning three generations.

The majority of the party chose from the set meal menu that included beautifully cooked sea bass, duck breast and steak as well as miso soup and a salad course. The grilled foods were accompanied by onion rings, courgette, potatoes and mixed egg and vegetable rice all fried in front of us on the stainless steel grill plate. The chefs knew how to make fun for the party including some "audience participation".

The restaurant is obviously very popular and was well decorated with Far Eastern artefacts.
An enjoyable and memorable evening.

“Probably the best Thai meal we've ever had”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 31, 2014

On the ground floor this is a Japanese restaurant but we went upstairs to the Thai - fantastic! The menu has plenty of choice: I had duck and vegetable spring rolls (in the shape of mini samosas) with a sweet and sour chilli sauce. There were 6 of these, with salad on a beautifully decorated plate. My husband had the Thai fish cakes. We both enjoyed our starters very much.
We chose two main courses between us - the Thai red curry and a Stir fried chicken with garlic, black pepper and coriander with a portion of sticky rice and a portion of rice noodles. Both main dishes were delicious and portions very generous. I'd have preferred the egg fried rice: I think my husband ordered the sticky rice without thinking but it was fine and the noodles were excellent, mixed with some tasty vegetables.
Although we didn't need it we couldn't resist banana and pineapple fritters with vanilla ice cream and a caramel sauce.
These restaurants are in one of the old warehouses along the canal - lots of the orignal features have been retained, resulting in interesting and pleasant surroundings. The service was friendly and efficient. For the 3 course meal, one beer and one large glass of wine we paid just under £60 and felt this was excellent value.
We can't wait to return and we'll also try the Japanese restaurant next time.

“Another Excellent Meal!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 27, 2014

This must be our 5th or 6th visit to the teppan yaki restaurant at Siam, Chester over the past 2/3 years. Each time, the meal has been excellent and the cooking entertaining - we would thoroughly recommend it to anyone wishing to experience a teppan yaki experience.

Unable to comment on the Thai' side of the restaurant, which occupies the 1st floor, above the teppan yaki restaurant as we have not experineced it but from what we have seen, it appears to be a pleasant, intimate setting.

“Delicious food and great entertainment!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 25, 2014 via mobile

I visited the teppanyaki restaurant with my husband, 2 children and 2 friends and we all had a great time! There was some initial confusion about where the children would sit (I asked for 2 high chairs when making the booking but they only have booster seats-worth bearing in mind for anyone who has a baby that is too small for a booster seat), but we all eventually got seated around the table to watch the chefs cook our food. My 2 year old son was mesmerised by the fire and tricks, especially the ketchup trick!... All our food was delicious. The early bird menu was great value for money, but I had to order from the main menu as there were no veggie options. Overall, would highly recommend and I'm sure we'll be visiting again soon.
