Description: The Bear & Billet is a terrific 3 storey pub located inside the walled city of Chester which was owned by the Earl of Shrewsbury & built in 1664. The Bear & Billet offers a great friendly place to enjoy food and drink. We have a wide selection of cask ales and well as draught and bottled beers from around the world. We have a full homecooked food menu available everyday day with Sunday lunch available every Sunday from 12pm-7pm. Not only that we have function rooms available for hire as well as live sport shown throughout the year with 5 flat screen TV's available on 3 floors.

Down by the river Dee, not a far walk from town center. Neat old Victoria exterior and the inside has great old atmosphere. Went about 1 PM on a weekday for lunch, no crowd. Beer and ale selection outstanding, excellent bartender, very knowledgeable. Seating fine, wood beams and fireplace. Bathrooms upstairs. Food fine, had vegetable soup (very big bowl), and fish and chips. Fish fresh and done right, chips excellent. Very relaxing place.

Nice beer, staff who knew about the beer and friendly too. That was good.

Unfortunately when we went there was a rugby match on the TV (which we didn't want to watch). Ground floor was full of TV viewers and others. First floor - full of TV viewers. Second floor - empty, but we were dismissed form there with a 'Sorry this floor's closed'

Might be better when the TV's off.

Good looking interior. Friendly staff. Good choice of real ales & they do the 3 third of a pints as a taster. We didnt have food, but it looked really good coming out of the kitchens. Dog friendly, Sky Sports. Would go again

Even before entering this pub you know it's going to be good; the beautiful 17th century building with all of its original and intact fixtures lets you know you're about to have a good experience.

Inside I wasnt disappointed, 6 handpumps with 5 real ales and a cider meant there was a drink for myself and each of my friends. I opted for the Okells MPA, a lovely fruity beer recommended by the knowledgable staff who quickly picked up on what I was after.

Food was spot on, burger was pub grub on a new level and for less than a tenner with a choice of sides (I went mac n cheese) and chips; it was brilliant, I'll definitely be back. Those who I was with enjoyed their steak ("cooked perfectly") and fish and chips.

I'll be back!
