Description: The Bear & Billet is a terrific 3 storie pub located inside the walled city of Chester which was owned by the Earl of Shrewsbury & built in 1664. The Bear & Billet offers a great friendly place to enjoy food and drink. We have a wide selection of cask ales and well as draught and bottled beers from around the world. We have a full homecoo0ked food menu available everyday day with Sunday lunch available every Sunday from 12pm-7pm. Not only that we have function rooms available for hire as well as live sport shown throughout the year with 5 flat screen T. V's available on 3 floors.

“Gone rapidly downhill - don't bother if you're veggie”
Reviewed November 11, 2012

This was my favourite place for lunch in Chester for a long while but I've been twice in the last few months and will not be returning again. The menu has changed several times, and not for the better. Maybe it's just the vegetarian options that are especially poor, but the last two meals I've had have been very disappointing. I had a pasta dish which was so bland that it tasted like baby food and, most recently, the veggie beanburger which was just inedible. It was overwhelmingly dry, crumbly and about 4 times bigger than it should have been. Added to this, the chips were barely lukewarm with all meals in our party.

The food certainly LOOKS great, with really good presentation, but sadly the taste doesn't match the appearance. The meat-eaters I've been with the last two times said their meals were adequate but nothing special. I would have given it one star for my meals alone but have taken the other meals into consideration and given it two stars.

it's a real shame as I loved this cosy, traditional pub with its tasty, homecooked meals.

“Great Beer”
Reviewed October 27, 2012

Never eaten there but the beer is great and the food smells great. The building is 17th Jacobite with timber frame wattle and daub type structure. The inside reflects the same vintage. But did I say the beer is great?

“Really lovely pub with great food and hospitality”
Reviewed October 17, 2012

My family and I went to visit my nephew and Chester uni on Sunday and looked for a city centre pub which had great food ,service and hospitality and would accommodate dogs. This pub had it all and more. All six of us had a main course lamb dinners, macaroni cheese, fish and chips,Steak burgers. e were all very happy with the service and food. ll staff were very polite and friendly and brought a bowl of water for the dog. I would definitely recommend The Bear and Billet and will be visiting again on our next visit to Chester

A very old pub- lovely to see and experience. But lots of TVs - with loud football and difficult to "enjoy the atmosphere"--- we went on a Sunday.. The Sunday roast dinner was TOP! Really good.

On the sundaye at 8:30pm they also have live music (folk) on the third level - lots of stairs ...and bar is only on ground floor-- but great atmosphere if you like an open mike night with folk music...
All around worth a visit!
