“Good location, unique stay in town centre”
Reviewed May 11, 2013 via mobile

Lovely hotel, quirky and in town. Would be great in the sunshine! Took us a whole to figure out the bathroom door. Loved the interior, cocktails and service. Would definitely go back again, felt very prestige at a good price.

we only had a meal and drinks here on a recent stay in Chester but will probably choose it for our hotel also next time, the restaurant was lovely and so were the gardens and bar areas, the food was really good and everything tasted fresh . the only negative was my husbands "Fish Soup" which tasted fantastic unfortunately there was just not enough liquid to really call it a soup as it didn't cover the spoon ! it was a few pieces of lovely seafood in a small amount of sauce, leaving him bit on the hungry side. we would eat there again as the quality was great, but would probably order a few more sides.

Stayed at Oddfellows three times this year already and plan to go back very soon.

The rooms are amazing and quite unique. Really comfortable beds.

We were given an upgrade on our third trip as they remembered us, but we were glad we did not pay as the room was no better than the standard rooms available.

So we'd definitely recommend just getting the standard Caldecott room rather than paying a lot more for the Newbrook as there is no visible difference apart from getting a round bed.

Excellent place to visit and stay.

Great hotel, nice and different decor and furnishings to normal hotels. Reception had seats for you to sit at when checking in, staff very friendly - they showed us up to our room - don't normally get that. The outside bar looked amazing, didn't get to try it out but want to go back - reminded me of bars in Oz as its furnished like an indoor bar. Only gripe was that there were no biscuits in the room and that our room didn't have a bath - but did have a lovely double shower!! Breakfast (the one included in the price) was a small croissant, juice and an apple delivered to your room. Nice idea, but i like hotels where you can eat tonnes of breakfast, enough to fill you up till dinner! You could go to the restaurant but that was extra (didnt see how much extra). Other than that I would go again, just because its so different to big chain hotels.

Personally I found this hotel to be one of the best experiences Ive had in along time. Situated only yards from the main shops and attractions of Chester lies the Oddfellows Hall now Hotel. From the outside in daylight it seems unimposing a little but as soon as you go up the entrance stairs all becomes apparent as to its true status. Some one has gone to an awful lot of trouble to make this Hotel a hidden gem that everone will love. I would recommend this to everyone I know and all those that read this review.

From the reception area through to the wonderful bar area through the restaurant, the outside seating extravaganza and on to the rooms in the main building. We enjoyed a cocktail on arrival in the main bar area which was buzzing with all sorts of people from brides maids to couples and friends just chatting. The staff were great couldn't be more helpful and pleasant.

We were shown to our lovely comfortable room with in room shower ! and everything you need for a perfect stay. It was one of the classic rooms so if you really want to go mad look for the even trendier suites. The restaurant at night was full with guests and visitors all enjoying a very well cooked meal presented in nouveau style.

We loved it, both of us which is unusual. Breakfast was exactly what you wanted no matter what you want.

All hail the staff at this place as they were the stars. Really the hotel was the star but the styaff were great.,

We popped into Oddfellows for a spot of afternoon tea on Saturday (the lower case 'a' and 't' are important here), ahead of a visit from friends next week. We had heard that the Garden at Oddfellows was a really nice place to visit and a bit of an idyll within the city. We popped in and upon being asked by the Maitre D', we told him that a spot of tea would be nice, and we were guided to a table in the main dining area.

A girl came over to take our order, asking us whether we would like any drinks, and I ordered some tea and coffee, and asked whether there were any cakes in the offing. "No - just what's on the 'Let Them Eat Cake' menu there", she said. I kind of waited for her to offer some alternatives, or to at least sing the praises of the Afternoon Tea (capital 'A', capital 'T' there...), but she just wandered off, returning with a semi-scowl and our drinks.

About twenty minutes later, another girl came over and started laying out cutlery and crockery, which I thought was rather odd. I asked whether it was for us, and she said "You're having the Afternoon Tea, aren't you?" I told her that I wasn't, and she apologised, taking the items away.

They hadn't spoken to us at all about our order, or whether there was anything else they could offer us, and in light of the fact that we eventually only had a warm drink each, they obviously saw that a tip would be minimal, and thus ignored us where they could.

When I paid the bill, the original waitress couldn't get to the table quick enough - obviously keen to snaffle up any potential tip that may have been lurking amidst the cutlery on the tabletop. She was so keen to get to the table that she even blocked my girlfriend's exit! Well, she can keep on looking, that's all I'll say - we felt thoroughly unwelcome and uncomfortable, and we most certainly won't be bringing our friends back.

A bad time was had by all.
