“Mmm well .......”
Reviewed April 25, 2013

I suppose it is an avenue, of sorts, though most of the shops were empty/to let, on the right hand side (the 'Barclays' side we were told!) we found a coffee shop open when we arrived, and that was quaint, and a gift shop with a helpful lady serving, but not much else open, it was a Sunday and apparently the pubs are closed then but one can get a drink with a meal elsewhere!

And there is internet on the island, and NO tax, but no NHS nor pensions either.

Still, Sark is a small place and it was early season, but it has 2 banks!

“Dispirited Avenue”
Reviewed November 26, 2012

Despite its name the Avenu is now a misnomer as all the trees that formerly lined it were cut-swon for fuel during WWII when the island was occupied. Apart from the Post Office ,the new boulangerie and the shop with Sark Glass, the rest of the Avenue is not somewhere to linger..

“"AJ's Cafe, The Avenue"”
Reviewed September 20, 2012

Had a great haddock at this basic, friendly cafe with a great little outside eating area out back. The owner's husband fished it that morning. Even went back for dinner. No espressos but this keeps away the wrong kind of people. A good local place to catch the island vibe, why stay surrounded by the same people from the ferry trip. They do take away on Friday nights. Whoever said poor service, are we talking about the same place?
