“Quirky Saturday evening”
Reviewed September 24, 2013

I was a little wary at the prospect of a Saturday night at the Harbour Room but was pleasantly surprised. The buffet starter was, as always, varied and fresh. The main course is served to you at the table and the fact that two out of the four of us were served, and thouroughly enjoyed, a different main course to what we ordered added to the quirkyness of the evening!

A big table by the window, and a couple of bottles of wine made this a thoroughly enjoyable evening.

“amazing seafood in elegant surroundings”
Reviewed August 21, 2013

We booked in advance for the Friday night seafood buffet and were glad we had as the place was extremely full. Extremely friendly and helpful staff made us comfortable in very elegant surroundings, with a piano being played in the background. The cold seafood selection is truly stunning - some familiar and some quite weird and for the more adventurous. The huge prawns were delicious. There is also a hot selection of main courses and really fresh looking vegetables. The chef was constantly there checking the buffet and was happy to talk us through what was available - a nice personal touch. The desserts were also excellent, particularly the pecan pie. The cheese board looked inviting too but we were too full! Really lovely experience, well worth the £26.50 per head and the wine was reasonably priced too. Go at 6.30 when it starts and take your time so you have room to try everything! The view over the seafront is an added bonus!

“Harbour room carvery room for improvement”
Reviewed August 8, 2013

The Harbour Room Carvery at the PommeD'Or doesn't have it's own entry in the Restaurant section of TA.... So writing up here under the Hotel entry. Very traditional, table cloths, fancy folded napkins and traditional service, no problem with that, but not everyone's cup of tea these days.
Very good buffet style starters with a wide range of choice.... But the main meal was a let down.... Only choice on the carvery was beef or lamb( no chicken, etc) and the veg..... Well I know al dente is traditional.... But all the veg was almost raw..... It's a shame, it could have been so much better.

“Buffet which was best cold although mains meant to be hot”
Reviewed July 31, 2013 via mobile

Had a Italian buffet experience here starter was good very much like wat we had in Italy earlier in the year Napoli !

The main was shocking aubergine bake which was over cooked
Pizza only 3 slices left that had looked like they had been there since the morning !
Main courses were that bad I had to eat 3 pieces of bread instead as they tasted nicer then the mains that were just dry and boring not Italian at all ! Pasta was all taste less !

In all was terrible food next time go earlier as we sat down at 8 but not sure that will change the out put !

Chefs do your homework next time

“Try that beef!”
Reviewed July 31, 2013

The title says it all! Occasionally it is my privilege to pop in to the Pomme d'Or for a relaxing lunch. All the polite and friendly staff are looking after your slightest need. The menu is always most varied, but my favourite has to be the beef, cooked to perfection. Vegetables, roasted potatoes, cooked potatoes, Yorkshire pud etc, etc. Or, go for the buffet table with enough choice to make a decision of what to pick most difficult. Wine list is good without being frightening. Best of all, it is good value according to todays high cost of living. Well done, Pomme d'Or!
