“Superb food”
Reviewed August 28, 2012

A group of 7 friends on a walking holiday thoroughly enjoyed a 3-course meal at La Barbarie on the last night of their holiday. The set menu was excellent value, the a la carte selection was varied and tempting, and all the dishes we ordered were delicious. The seafood was fresh and succulent, including a large pot of moules in a fabulous mariniere sauce and monkfish in a light curry sauce, and the steak and turkey were tender and tasty. The wine list was very reasonable and we savoured the muscadet, merlot and, to finish, a wonderful dessert wine. Service was very pleasant and helpful.

“A nice experience”
Reviewed August 27, 2012

We had a good evening, we sat in the bar beforehand and the staff were only too pleased to give us plenty of time to choose. An excellent set menu with nice selection of dishes. Opted for the bruschetta very fresh and tasty followed by a tangy vegetable Thai curry. Partner had prawns in garlic butter followed by three meaty lamb chops perfectly cooked with fondant potatoes. Friends both had sea bass which was beautifully cooked. Nice individual cheese board, four cheeses with walnut bread and biscuits on slate board. Staff very friendly and professional. Would like to return again.

This is probably the best meal we had on Guernsey. The staff were attentive and friendly. The food excellent. Choice of wines and local food, especially the Fort Grey cheese made the evening really special. Glad we walked home to our nearby hotel. (Would consider staying here next time).
Some interesting quotes on the menu :-)
Probably worth booking to be sure to get a table.

I am a regular visitor here, a good bar, bar menu, and A la carte restaurant. Cant go wrong here, staff brilliant, good food, its got a very good reputation. Look out for special menus in the restaurant early summer and autumn, especially when walking weeks are on.

We visited the restaurant whilst staying in this hotel for a night, and were very impressed. We had a drink in the bar first, whilst we perused the menu. We were on half board, and there was a table d'hote menu for this, but the a la carte menu was also available with the supplement charges marked by each dish. We chose a scallop and chorizo starter, along with crab timbale and crab cake with sweetcorn & coriander salsa - both scrumptious and the scallops were the biggest we had ever seen. We then moved on to mains of Medley of grilled seafood in champagne sauce, and Grilled Seabass on crab risotto - a bit of a let down after the crab starter, but probably not the cleverest thing to order!
Lastly we shared a lemon tart with lime sorbet - wonderful.
We enjoyed a bottle of rose wine from the decent wine list. The prices were reasonable for the quality of food and the ambiance was just right. We were also spoilt for choice with the variety on the menu. Would highly recommend and the restaurant is obviously popular, both with tourists and locals, with all tables taken.
