Situated a short walk from St Annes, the Old Barn is well worth the effort. Not only is the food superb, the welcome is really genuine. Locals and tourists alike mingle in the bar area or in the tropical style garden. Food is from local suppliers, the fish in particular is excellent.

The location is a joy. Allow for the fact this is Alderney not MacDonalds (don't expect it in 2 minutes) and you will not be dissapointed. The menu selection is good and each item cooked to a high standard.

The perfect spot for a rest on your travels around the island. A little tranquil haven, tucked away. (We didn't eat - only had drinks)

The Old Barn is situated in a heavenly bit of the Island, the foot of the lush hill on which perches the astounding Fort Essex. It's a casual restaurant, bar and cafe, ideal for lunch or a cream tea, which does tasty evening food on Fridays and Saturdays. The garden is a lovely place to dine, weather permitting, with little umbrella-ed tables dotted amongst the greenery.

The food is generous, simple and well cooked, and also well priced. We ended up going twice, this last break we were on the Island, and that's quite impressive given the healthy competition these days.

Salads are very simple but generous, puddings are home made and divine, and much of the seafood is clearly straight off the harbour. Go for lunch on a sunny day, and you won't be disappointed. Indeed, work up an appetite by walking up and around Fort Essex first, and then you can feel you deserve the generous servings.
