Description: We offer cream teas, hot dishes, salads and sandwiches all day, and all freshly prepared to order. It's not 'fast food' and sometimes, especially busy days in the summer, there may be a bit of a wait for the food. It could probably be done quicker, and cheaper, but it wouldn't be as good. Our tea-list is certainly unique - nowhere else in the world are you offered teas from every continent. We're proud that the much-missed Tea Guild, in their final annual awards in April 2013, again gave us an Award of Excellence - the eighth year running, counting the time they declared us the best tea-place in the country. The Times newspaper has listed us in their top 5 places to have tea, and Country Living magazine named us their favourite tearoom. Most recently, in 2015, BBC Good Food magazine listed us among their 10 favourite tea-rooms, so we have a lot to live up to. We keep looking for ways to improve. If you have never been, let's hope you have the opportunity soon. We look forward to seeing old and new friends. Open Wednesday to Sunday, and Tuesdays in the summer, and Bank Holidays.

A very popular award winning typically English tea room in a quant building covered in wisteria by the river in Ely, if you are lucky enough to get an outdoor seat, a perfect place for lunch or tea and cakes. We stopped by for a cream tea - so many choices of tea to choose - we chose builders tea with home made fruit scones, jam and cream. Scones were just warm, perfect, very light and fluffy and delicious, drenched in cream and jam - very naughty but very nice. All served in china cups and tea pot. Staff very friendly and polite. If you are inside the tea room it has a very homely feeling, warm and comfortable. Highly recommended.

“Best tearoom in the world!!”
Reviewed September 24, 2013

I now live in Spain but whenever I visit my daughters who live in the Fens I try to get to Peacocks. On Saturday September 21st we were in Ely with friends new to the area and could not resist having lunch there. Yes we had to wait for half an hour to get inside (it was too chilly to be outside)but we were continually reassured by Mr Big and we knew it would be worth it. Mind you, the situation wasn't helped by a party of 4 taking up a huge table for at least an hour after they had obviously finished their meal - just sitting and cchatting.

“A cold, wet September afternoon.......”
Reviewed September 24, 2013

On a cold wet September afternoon, while on a visit to Ely, our friend suggested we have lunch at her favourite tea rooms. Obviously very popular as there was a queue. Our friend assured us it would be worth the wait, as did several groups of customers on their way out, having already enjoyed the delights on offer. We waited for at least 30 minutes but were assured that we would be seated as soon as possible with apologies offered several times for the long wait. We were not disappointed, we loved the atmosphere, the excellent service and the quality and choice of food available. If visiting Ely, make Peacocks Tearooms a must do, you won't be disappointed.

“Busy, decent quality, but let down in a couple of ways”
Reviewed September 20, 2013

We turned up on the 31st of August, a little after lunch, but not long enough after! We had to wait for about 15 minutes to get in, that's fair enough, it was a nice sunny day and people wanted their lunch, we also had poor luck in that a room was taken up with a hen do which was not in a hurry to leave! So, we had to wait, understood. That said, for the bulk of the time we were waiting, the extenuating circumstances were not revealed to us, a shame.

As a suggestion to the owner who I note reads the reviews, (some of the responses are wrily amusing too), is it possible to provide some seating for those who are waiting? I understand that this may not be possible due to by-laws or whatever, but it would help the wait.

Once we were inside we found that the prices for food were perhaps a little higher than we would expect, but when a venue is this popular obviously this view may not be in line with general consensus.

When we received our food the lady who delivered the sandwiches didn't know which was the toasted ham and which was the toasted salmon and seemed to take a guess. I merrily put a large amount of pepper on my sandwich and then discovered it was the wrong one! As I had tainted the sandwich beyond the taste of the person with my sandwich we didn't swap so we missed out on our orders.

Finally, my wife needed to change our baby son, but found the changing table difficult to set up whilst holding him.

However, the quality was good, portion sizes generous and the tea selection impressive, we'd be happy enough to return

I have been here a couple of times, not sadly for a number of years though. The last time i went I was looking after a friends house in Ely and felt like some lunch. the food was excellent and the tea (chocolate imperial) was the best i have had, although i am not what one would call a tea connoisseur. when ever anyone talks about the best cup of tea this is the place that comes to mind for me!
