we popped in the Hereward prior to the Carol Service at Ely Cathedral, had their Teacake and pot of Tea. so impressed we went back and had their Mixed Grill and a Bottle of Merlot all for £29 you can't say fairer than that! Very polite bar staff and tables cleared swiftly. yes its a Smith & Jones and you have Chrismas Misic and sky Sport but we enjoyed it and suited us at the time we visited..very festive. Not suitable for a quiet rmantic night but would recommend

We called in on a busy Saturday afternoon for lunch. Staff did not seem to be very quick in clearing tables, we returned the previous customers glasses to the bar and wiped the dirty table. Our children's menu was a plain A4 piece of paper with the menu typed out, ordered 2 adult meals and 1 child. The adult meals turned up long before the childs. When the childs meal did arrive, there had been a huge mistake as my son didn't notice the ham hiding under all the melted cheese on his 'vegetarian' pizza!! When we did manage to catch the attention of a member of staff, she shoved a printed menu at us and said 'it says cheese and ham'! When we then gave her the menu we had ordered off, she offered to replace the pizza. A very heavily microwaved pizza then arrived, so hot that my son was unable to eat it and he felt uncomfortable as we had already finished eating. The children's menu is supposed to come with a dessert, we got fed up of waiting for the cookie cup, so left.
Overall the food was not great quality, service was terrible and staff were very good at avoiding eye contact and work!

I have visited this pub on several occasions during December 11 & January 2012 having recently moved to Ely seemed favorite watering hole thinking it was geared up for community ! this was certainly not the case the staff are very rude and very abrupt ! I asked to see the manager to take up my query and to ask why the staff were so rude, I was told he was off duty !!!

It was revealed during my visit some days later that the manager had actually been sitting at the end of the bar socialising with friends quote by one of his staff "This is where he always is" .

NOTE: This Pub, The staff are rude, abrupt and inexperienced of dealing with customers !! also be prepared for there bullying tactics at the end of the evening especially weekends. BE WARNED

called in this pub early evening 7 ish as it looked empty and the clients wanted to finish the evening chatting, we approached the emtpty bar and were served by an gentleman in his 60's
no welcome just a look and a raise of abrow, ordered our 3 soft drinks, all th drinks came with ice and lemon, no option was given to order no ice no lemon, and as the bar man took the order and wondered off before we had a chance to say no lemon,

the soda water , j2o and orange juice came back, then we asked, sorry can we do the water with no lemon and no ice, ( one person is highly allergic to citrus friut)
the bar man turned his back to us and fished the lemon out......we could not beleive our eyes..... thats when one client spoke up and said sorry usually there is an option offered if ice and lemon are wanted!

we ordered another water, but not entirely convinced it would be served citrus free the drink was left,

as we then was turned to walk to a table the bar lady turned and started slagging us off we were no more than 2 steps away! to the fact that one client turned and said .....you might want to wait till your customers are away from the bar before you start dirty talking them, how embarres was i to take some influentiial people to this rude, common establishment,

so lesson learned, pick a business vebue in future and do not take anyone important here - shocking
