Went with my husband and Mother-in-law! Very enjoy service. It was the Chorister benefactor service.

Ely Cathedral was a beautiful place to visit! The interior was stunning and the staff was friendly and incredibly knowledgeable. It is worth paying the extra money to hike the tower. It is quite the hike to be sure and requires squeezing through a couple of Hobbit-sized doors, but the views are beyond compare. The town of Ely is gorgeous as well and is wonderful to walk around. The stained glass museum (inside the cathedral) was nice but not really worth the money overall.

Had the tour including the octogan tower. The cathedral is really lovely. The tour of the tower was excellent and the guide extremely knowledgeable. Be careful of the narrow staircase

I highly recommend a visit to the Cathedral of the Fens. The architecture of this building is extraordinary. The Octagon Tower is a remarkably innovative response to the collapse of the former spire. Despite the ascent of 288 steps I strongly advocate the ascent of the West Tower to appreciate the flat panorama of the fens and the former landscape of the 'Isle of Ely'. A hidden gem.

Discovered Ely cathedral after flicking through the pages of a travel guide - saw the pictures, then immediately jumped on a train to get there (I live just south of Cambridge).

The cathedral itself contains an unusual octagonal tower & lantern suspended high above the cathedral floor by ancient oak beams. A wonder of the medieval world, the tower was finished 1342 after the original central tower collapsed - 250 years after the cathedral was begun in Norman times. Did a walking tour that takes you high up in the tower, and was awestruck.

An absolute must see, along with the beautiful town of Ely.
