“A very special place.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 13, 2012

We have had many meals at the Anchor, it's probably the best gastro pub type restaurant in the area, we have always had excellent food. The staff are welcoming and helpful. The place is laid back and I love the way it is set out. Scrubbed pine tables and low beams- cosy.
One tip - if you ask in advance they will provide gluten free rolls to go with the oil, balsamic, flavoured butters and rolls that are set on the table as you choose your courses. Haven't visited for lunch, nor sat outside recently, but it is by the river (technically fen drain) and is very pleasant and more scenic than it sounds.

“Not quite hot enough”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 17, 2012

The Anchor has always been our favourite local place to enjoy a special evening. We both had steak tonight, although extremely tasty the meat wasn`t very hot. My wife had cheese and biscuits, for the money, there could have been more biscuits and perhaps some grapes?

“lunch is best value”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 9, 2012

Really characterful property beside fenland drain with scrubbed pine tables and smoky beamed ambiance. Gets very busy at w/e's and you need to book. Few nice bedrooms for overnight stay and excellent breakfasts.
Best time to visit I think is midweek lunch, much more laid back with good value three courses under £20. Normally busy but not full so service is good and food prompt. Pre/post prandial walk along the dyke gives context to the pub, an original hostelry for (am I right here?) nalpleonic prisoners digging the drain heading out over the Welny wash.
The fairs local and excellent game choices.
The evening menu is dear and sometimes there is a bit of a wait so for my money go for lunch, take the walk and have a very relaxing meal with consistently good food.

“Sunday lunch on a chilly winters day”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2012

A warm welcoming gastro pub on the Fens - We started with scallops and white bait (home made tartar sauce), a huge traditional Sunday roast beef with the largest yorkshire pud i've ever seen and a grey mullet fillet. a couple of pints of old Growler and 2 large cab sav's.

Great value , quality and service.

“Overated - Fancy expensive food not that well prepared”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 20, 2012

Having had this facility reccomended but quite a number of friends, we decide to make it the venue for celebrating our Daughter's Birthday. What a disappointment, starting with having to find our own table (rather than being shown to it by the staff actually present when the place opened at around 18.45) we had to wait some time for anyone to take our drinks orders, let alone our meals. The starter, whilst quite tasty was a little thin on content and the Main courses (when they eventually arrived) ranged from acceptaple basic (Chicken) through mediocre (T Bone Steak), not quite cooked as requested, to an absolute disaster (Duck) so tough I needed the steak knife to even attempt to eat it.
