We really enjoyed our stay on Waternimf. The cabin was lovely - we were surprised at the size of the ensuite bathroom. We’d expected a tiny shower and toilet that we’d have to pump but we’d underestimated the luxuriousness! When we arrived, Stuart made us a pot of tea, which was very welcoming. There were four of us; at breakfast 2 asked for fried eggs, one for poached and one for scrambled. Sorry, Stuart! All was prepared without a murmur, however!
We would recommend thoroughly!

Stayed one night on possibly one of the hottest weekends of the year so far. Attention to detail covers absolutely everything. Lovely full English breakfast. Can't fault our stay at all. Only thing to bare in mind is if your mobility is impaired at all you may struggle. Steep steps into boat and step up into bed! Will definitely be visiting again.

We stayed in Ely for 1 night on our way up to the north of England for a weeks touring holiday with some old friends. We thought we would stay at the Hotel Barge Waternimf as it would be completely different to the places we and our friends normally stay in and we are all so glad we chose it as we all thoroughly enjoyed our short stay. The barge is located about 150 yards down a towpath from the nearest free car parking area. There are restaurants and pubs close nearby. The barge has 5 cabins, 4 at the front of the barge and 1 at the rear. In the middle of the barge is the kitchen & dining area for breakfast and behind that to the rear of the boat is a small lounge area. The cabins were obviously on the small side and had a cosy en suite bathroom with shower, wash basin & toilet. The cabin was spotlessly clean and the bed was very comfortable. The cabin was well equipped with coffee maker, bottles of water & TV. The internet reception was excellent. The bathroom despite being quite small was again more than adequate with large fluffy towels, soap and toiletries. The breakfasts consisted of a range of cereals, orange juice, coffee & teas and a cooked breakfast to order However there are some drawbacks in staying on a barge. Firstly the steps down to the living accommodation are quite steep and in certain cases you have to go down backwards, secondly the beds in each of the cabins are raised and whilst a wooden step is provided to help you get on to the bed it may be difficult for some people. In addition one side of the bed is tight against the side of the barge so if you need to get up in the middle of the night without waking your partner you need to slide off the edge of the bed. Finally the barge is quite close to the railway line and whilst that did not disturb us during the night we were aware of the trains passing whilst we were sitting on the deck enjoying a sundowner. Overall we all thoroughly enjoyed staying on the barge. It was something totally different, great fun and the breakfast was superb

This hotel is very different: B & B on a hotel barge. This means that rooms are oddly shaped being confined by the hull and this needs to be borne in mind. Other snags include steep steps, the odd trip hazard and small en-suite.It is still a comfortable place to stay.
Stuart the owner is very hospitable and is full of advice about the fascinating vicinity and he cooks your breakfast to order in the intimate breakfast room. Friends are soon made here or in the comfortable sitting room.
The boat is moored on a very attractive waterfront and the choice of restaurants both in the vicinity and in Town (20 min walk) is excellent. It is also convenient for the busy Station.

Room Tip: The stern cabin has a sit bath, other rooms have showers

Always wanted to stay on a converted barge. This was everything I could have come to expect and more. Very attentive owner. Greeted and offered a beer to enjoy above deck. Cosy double bed with ensuite shower. Amazing breakfasts cooked how we wanted it, really completes the stay. Boat is located within 5 minutes walk of train station and plenty of places to eat and drink along the canal side. Great for visiting Ely and further afield (15 minutes to Cambridge and 50 minutes to Norwich by Train).
