Working in Cambourne, this is the only pub in walking distance, so we only visit it because it is convenient. Usually it's ok, the food is cheap and you get what you pay for. However, on our last visit on 19th December, both the service and food has gone way below even a basic minimum that you would expect in even the cheapest of places.
The bartender, a large middle-aged man, really gave the impression that he didn't want to be there and that serving customers was such a chore. There was no customer service, just sighs and tuts when deciding on drinks. We were told that the food was going to be about 45 minutes - no idea why because it certainly was not busy. It ended up being more like 1hr 15 minutes and the food was appalling. Carrots that were hard and tasteless were the 'vegetables' that accompanied my bowl of chicken and chorizo mush. The other meals were also pretty much on the same level.
The waitress asked if everything was ok, we said no, not really, it was bad. She shrugged and walked off with the plates.
It's a shame. This is the only pub in Cambourne (currently) and generally Marstons pubs do reach a basic level of quality (never good, but generally ok).
I'd avoid this place until they put in some decent staff, both front of house and in the kitchen.
