Why do many people prefer the bland big-name alternatives (e.g. Carluccios, Jamies) to this superb restaurant. The food here is tasty, the decor tasteful, the staff professional and friendly. It certainly helps that owner, Paul, is very often there to ensure the standards are kept at the higest of levels. In his absence, his long standing manager, Jason is excellent - far better again than the rapid turnover managers in the corporate restaurant competitors.
Last week I started with one of my favourites, crispy squid - and I challenge anyone to find as good a squid dish at the price anywhere else. My companion tried the mussels which were also excellent. We splashed out on the fillet steak with the gorgonzola sauce, which were the best steaks eaten in a restaurant for along time, but I am happy to recommend the cheaper option pastas and risottos. For dessert, the chocolate and raspberry torte and white chocolate and lemon cheesecake rounded off the meal in excellent style.
The serving staff were attentive and professional, and appeared happy in their jobs.
Are there any downsides? The food and drink is not cheap, on the otherhand for the quality of the food, service and ambiance it was not expenses either. However hard I try I cannot think of any. ENJOY!
