“A pleasant place to visit.”
Reviewed April 6, 2016 for a stay in April 2016

Stayed at the Lodge with husband and six year old, but we also had a group of friends local to the area over to visit at the weekend. Plenty of room and facilities for everyone, and made a lovely quiet base for us to explore Cambridge and the general area. And when we did opt to stay in our daughter had a great time entertaining herself in the garden on trampoline, swings and slide. We also discovered the large playground just around the corner too, which was the highlight of her visit!

Decent facilities, well equipped in all regards. We would happily visit again.

Liked best: Plentiful supply of wood for log burner added to the overall contented feel with this property.
Liked least: Only one toilet. Which was fine for three of us.

“Lovely, clean, spacious and great for children”
Reviewed March 13, 2016 for a stay in March 2016

We just had a one night stay at The Lodge, 4 mums with 6 young children! The kids were very excited about the trampoline and play area, but when we turned up the whole place was better than expected, the photos don't do it justice. We wanted somewhere to just relax and chatter whilst the kids were entertained and it was great for this, and we are grateful that Helen trusted 6 children in her lovely cottage!

The house was very well kept, with high ceilings making it feel very spacious and light. The bathroom was modern, and the living room had a log burner which we made use of and some games. The fridge was very wet inside when we arrived so perhaps needs checking before guests check in, but other than that everything was great.

The kids spent most of the time in the garden, which is just fantastic for kids, and the resident peacock and cats made it even more exciting for them. In summer it would be even better, with plenty of space to sunbathe and socialise.

One of us stayed in the summer house in the garden, which obviously wasn't going to be quite as comfortable as the house, but it was adequate and the little heater kept it warm enough. It could be made more homely and not sure if the bedding was different to that in the main bedrooms, it didn't feel as luxurious!

Overall, we had a great trip, and will definitely be visiting again, hopefully for a bit longer!

Thank you Helen :)

“Excellent place to stay for our 5 week holiday in England”
Reviewed November 8, 2015 for a stay in October 2015

We have just stayed in the Barrington Hall gatehouse lodge from the 2nd October until the 6th November . It was an excellent and beautiful place to stay for us and our 3 children ( our son has Cerebral palsy and Autism ) and was home from home for us.The Lodge was extremely clean and well maintained. Barrington village is a beautiful part of the world and the Royal Oak pub is an excellent pub serving great food and beer that we visited numerous times during our stay. Jana the Events manager at Barrington Hall was always extremely helpful and friendly . We would recommend this place to anybody and would have no hesitation in staying there again. 10/10 Neil and Diana Taylor Lawson NSW Australia

“The worst kind of place anyone would ever want to stay, even for free.”
Reviewed August 23, 2015 for a stay in August 2015

I won't recommend this property to anyone looking for a nice vacation. Firstly, there's no proper indication of address, emails and phone calls goes unanswered. It took me 2 hours to finally locate this place. Upon arrival, it was to my great disappointment to my family. The property is dirty with moulds and cobwebs. Looks like it hasn't been stayed for a long time. The internet wasn't working and I had to reset/rewire it myself. Poor lighting and only 1 bathroom for 3 bedrooms. Kitchen utensils are dirty and old. Property is facing a cemetery and even after blessings/prayers, my family was disturbed during the night. Horrible place! Shouldn't be even advertised on Tripadviser! What a ripoff property! Sucks!

Thank you for your review. We are grateful for the feedback as we, the owners, were abroad over the summer and employed a new cleaning agency to look after the Lodge for us. Needless to say we are no longer using them and have taken the opportunity to deep clean, decorate and refurbish the Lodge. It is now officially spotless.
I have refreshed the directions on our webpage - so sorry you took so long to find the Lodge, Barrington is a small village you must have gone round and round!
I apologise if the church goers disturbed you and your family. I am not sure how but as you can imagine we would not dream of asking them to use the church differently.
Anyway again thank you for your review, we are grateful as it allowed us to pick up the issue quickly and resolve.

The lodge is in a great location, and the trampoline and garden are great for young children. The owners are very nice and helpful. The house itself is nicely furnished and has all the expected amenities however, although it had clearly been cleaned on the surface, it could really do with a good spring clean. When we arrived the mat in the bathroom wasn't clean and the shower mat was black with mould - we contacted the owner and this was dealt with swiftly and they were great and very easy to deal with, but I do think they need to spend some time in the house themselves. The windows are really dirty and the oven and dishwasher were sticky and hadn't been cleaned in a while. We never used the cooker because we were put off by the filth on the oven shelves (we left these out in the hope that someone would clean them before the next guests arrived). Every time we lifted a cover, moved a cabinet there was dust and dirt, and after our initial complaints we just felt embarrassed to call again. Overall it has the air of a house that needs a really good cleaning and airing. I was on a work trip and had decided to bring family and commute into Cambridge and London, so it was value for money in that sense - a hotel for 4 people would have cost a lot more. So my overall rating is in the middle, but I wouldn't use again sadly.

“Lovely accommodation in beautiful surroundings”
Reviewed July 27, 2015 for a stay in July 2015

We only stayed for two nights but would happily stay for longer. The Lodge was comfortable and clean, and in beautiful grounds. We sat in the garden on the first night enjoying the peaceful surroundings before walking to the pub. The village has a wonderful pub that sells good food and real ale, it also has a classic car rally once a month. We thoroughly recommend this accommodation.

“enjoyable quiet stay in the countryside”
Reviewed April 6, 2015 for a stay in March 2015

We were happily surprised of the setting, a quiet wooded area with two peacocks as neighbours. Although the cottage appears small from the outside, there was enough room for all of us with nice bedrooms, a big bathroom and a well equipped kitchen. The living room could benefit of an extra armchair or chair as we had to move a chair in the kitchen to be able to all eat around the kitchen table. We all agreed that we enjoyed greatly our stay at the lodge aso did my parents coming from France, as well as the cat.
