Owner description: Cambridge is a market city, and stalls have been trading at the historic market square in the city centre since the middle ages. From Monday-Sunday, 10am-4pm, you will find stalls selling a wide range of goods including: Street Food, Books, Vinyl, CDs and DVDs Clothes, jewellery and bags Fruit and vegetables, fresh fish and health foods Second hand bikes Garden plants Mobile phones and accessories ...and much more! The market square also hosts a flourishing local food, arts and crafts market on Sundays (10am-4pm), selling organic produce from local farmers and work from some of the region's most talented artists, craftsmen, potters, sculptors and photographers.

Big variety of open air stalls. We visited two bike stalls, and got good advice. There was a fruit stall selling unusual fruits: Nisperos, Rambutans , Alphonsos, Cactus pears, etc.
Just about anything for sale in the market.

There are some great stalls in the market which offset the rapidly advancing process of making Cambridge into Chain-store City. However, the city government needs to make more investment in the Market Square to ensure that it is clean and not so grotty.

This market is small with what I would call select stalls. It is worth a walk around taking in the sights like the bike repair stall very Cambridge !!.There are the usual market stalls such as fruit and veg, flowers etc..The sweet stall is not to be missed and is very popular !!

always busy, difficult to get around, untidy, no structure to the layout, closes too early to be useful

This is a working market open 7 days a week that serves, primarily, the people of Cambridge, including the large student population. Thank goodness it has fewer trinkets and none of the tatty junk stalls that travel from town-to-town. It's not a 'potemkin' market designed to draw tourists with kitzch or contrived historical features; it's a market where visitors can see real England, not an artificial constructed attraction. There are two busy bicycle repair stalls and I watched the proprietor of one chat with a customer as he removed a tyre without once taking his eyes off the person he was chatting with. How they make a living with their low, low prices, I just don't know! There's a stall selling about 50 different coffee beans, another specializing in hemp clothing, two (at least) second hand book stalls, a stall selling a very wide range of dried fruit (it had everything for our Christmas cooking), a confectionary stall, a cheese stall and, of course, greengrocers. There are often entertaining buskers on the Guildhall side and the 'big 3' colleges - Trinity, Kings and St Johns - are just a block or two away.
