Travelodge Newmarket Road Cambridge

The hotel is located a little out of the City but walkable. I was with friends a going to see Neil Finn at the Corn Exchange on the May Bank Holiday so the City was heaving and we were lucky to get anywhere to stay close to the venue.
The Travelodge brand has gone through a lot of changes for the better and although basic its very modern and I would say clean except for a few pubic hairs on the bathroom floor!
It was also noisy in the morning as the usual bin emptying took place at around 7 oclock, plus there is a massive building site next door which must be a pain during the week. This will not always be the case and dont let it put you off. A double room cost £55 pre-paid, (we didnt do Breakfast as we had a nice brunch in the City)
The City is walkable although avoid the undepass on the roundabout if on your own!

Room Tip: Take a bus tour of the City and have lunch in the Anchor whatching the would be punters struggle!

So, stayed here a couple of nights to attend a friend's wedding in Cambridge. Price was reasonable (given the weekend); but it's a bit out of the way. Walkable from the centre in around 30 minutes. Staff were friendly, but on arrival it was HEAVING with people at reception (to be fair, this was Friday). Took a while to be seen and allocated a room - but sadly when I got to the room it was not made up (this was 8pm) - towels on the floor, dirty bathroom etc. OK, I got another room which was fine (free wi-fi for only a few minutes though...ugh!). I did get the feeling over the whole weekend there weren't enough staff to deal with the above average number of customers milling around. And it is truly noisy downstairs, with a utilitarian vibe to the whole place.

Would probably stay here again, though maybe in the low season ;)

Room Tip: Go high or at the back to avoid road noise.

We booked this hotel last minute and payed £99 for the Saturday night over the May bank holiday. Some might think it a lot of money but to be honest the hotel was in a good location, it was very clean and the staff were most help full. The breakfast was worth the £7 extra that we paid. We had a room overlooking Newmarket Road. You may when booking want to ask for one at the front of the building as Newmarket Road is a vey busy road so was noisy. It was ok for as as it was not so hot and could have the window closed which dulled the noise considerably. There is no air con or not that I noticed and I did look so it may get warm in your room at certain times of the year. Our room 421 was not the biggest and the bathroom had toilet and shower no bath. If you want a bath you may want to phone to make sure you get one. But we were more than happy with the money we paid. There is plenty of indoor space downstairs to socialise. The bar was open 24hrs.
I would defiantly recommend this hotel and will be returning in the near future.
Note to management... It would of been really nice to to of been able to sit outside on that lovely patio area you have at the front of the hotel and have a drink or meal.

Stayed for one night for a business meeting the following day. Decoration very good. Staff efficient and friendly. Restaurant good prices and of a good quality. A good place to eat and fill up but not really a place for say a romantic meal as lighting bright. If you are looking for a good quality budget hotel to visit Cambridge well worth a visit.

My family and I spent one day in Cambridge since my husband was giving a lecture at Cambridge University. The receptionist was very nice and offered to help us when my husband needed a map to get to his lecture.

Lovely hotel. Decorated recently and it felt like we were in a better hotel than a travelodge. Definitely worth the money but a little far out from the main hustle and bustle of the city. Wouldn't recommend the breakfast though. £7.95 each for hardly any choice!

We stayed at this hotel for 1 night, it's a great hotel, it's recently been refurbished so everything in our room was new. It's very clean and the rooms are a good size. The staff were very friendly on reception and were there to offer good advice for getting around etc.

There is a car park underneath the hotel which is great and secure!

The only downside about our room was that we were facing the main road so there was quite a bit of traffic noise, especially Wednesday morning rush hour traffic!! Also, our room was next to the door near the lifts so again people getting up early for breakfast and checking out were fairly noisy walking past our room! This is obviously not the hotels fault.

The hotel is just a 20 minute walk into Cambridge. If you have a push bike, I would recommend taking one as everyone in Cambridge seem to cycle everywhere!

We didn't have breakfast in the hotel so I can't comment on the food.

Room Tip: Try not to get a room on the main road side and also near the doors to the lifts are noisy too.
