“Great people - Value for money”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 13, 2008

I stayed with my wife for four nights. (Dec 8-12.2008) We found the house, quite, very very clean and "cozy" in a friendly atmosphere with the personal signature of Yvonne and Stefano the owners.
Here we also found a very rich English breakfast and a secured
parking. The house is just 10 minutes walk from the city center.
Yvonne, Stefano we are looking forward to see you soon.
Overall I would say this is a lovely Guest House.

A traditional bed and breakfast, close to the river and to Midsummer Common.

A bit of traffic noise at the front of the house but our room was lovely and the beds were really comfortable. Everything was spotless. Breakfast was freshly cooked and good and the owners were very kind.

When we arrived in Cambridge, we headed to the Tourist Information Center immediately, but had a difficult time finding any vacancies (it was mid-week in July). We ended up at the Southampton Guest House, which is a bit out of the way, but we were happy at least to be within walking distance of the main part of Cambridge (about a 10 - 15 minute walk). The room was adequate and clean, but nothing special. It is on a fairly busy road, but somehow the traffic noise did not keep us awake. Breakfast was good. The owner found a safe place to lock up our bicycles for the night. I would not especially seek this place out, but it certainly was acceptable. Cambridge is a great place to visit and we were happy to be able to stay in town.

You can tell by the number of notices around the place that there's a pretty authoritarian regime running it. The landlord, a Greek or Cypriot, asks for your car keys as soon as you arrive so that he can shuttle your car around the confined parking area at the back, and gets angry if you ask if he's insured to drive other cars. The kitchen door, although the most convenient, is forbidden and although parking is at the back, you have to go down the side of the house, though the garden door into the street and then come in through the front door. Room decor is drab, stuffy and cramped. Continental breakfast ingredients are pretty basic - packet OJ, sliced bread toast, execrable coffee (but at least not instant). Cooked breakfast is ample and a little slow to arrive. It's on the edge of Cambridge and nowhere near the most interesting part of town, with most of the colleges. These people did not really try to be friendly or welcoming. They charged £55 for a double room.
