Had a problem finding this place in the dark - the lights above the sign weren't working so we had to park and get right up close before we knew we'd found the right pub! The staff were friendly but one couldn't answer our questions because it was the new menu - hmm, should have been trained properly. My main was in 2 parts; half was piping hot with the other half just lukewarm. The other main course was tasty and enjoyable, but unappealing to look at. Nice place for a change, but the prices are a bit higher than expected, and it is out of the way so we wouldn't go again.

Enjoyed an excellent lunch with Mother today, she had Liver which was perfectly cooked, I had Beef Bourguignon which was just superb. Excellent friendly service and a reasonable bill (noticed a few reviewers describing the Lion as expensive, which it is not - a couple of quid more than your average pub grub but well worth it) Menu is enticing and very creative, some really interesting and different combinations. This was my third visit to eat and am looking forward to many more working my way through the menu.

I was looking forward to a 'gastro' meal but was disappointed that my visit was decidedly average. I had the Sunday Roast Beef which was just OK and wasn't offered horseradish sauce, my husband had the burger but he's had better ones for half the price. We found the staff unfriendly and unhelpful too. We hadn't reserved a table so perhaps this makes a difference compared to other reviewers.

Part of "wanting to try something new" motto was driving to Hardwick. The place is quite big, they got tables on the front near the entrance. We were directed by a friendly staff to a table reserved when we got inside. After sitting, we were welcomed with an olive bread (only few gastro pub does this) with 2 kinds of spread to choose whichever that will tame a fussy taste bud. They have quite a few choices on the menu. We started the drinks with a half of noble and coke then we had red wine that was very nice. While waiting for our meal we had fun trying to catch a very wild fly. I had Pork T Bone that was good.

We enjoyed the meal which is quite dear but the experience was good.
