“Comfortable and pleasant”
Reviewed December 2, 2013

My girlfriend and I spent a night at the Guest House. The room was nice, the bed very comfortable and although there was no bathtub the shower cubicle was adequate. There was tea and coffee in the room and a decent TV. Everything was immaculately clean. The English breakfast was excellent, fresh unlike some places where it is left to dry out, and there is cereal and fruit as well. My only gripe is that the rates were wrongly advertised on the website and it turned out to be somewhat more expensive. Also it's not that close to the town centre. It takes about 25 mins to walk.

We stayed here for 10 nights in April. We had 2 rooms on the first floor (one flight up, so second floor in North america). The rooms were clean, bathrooms were clean. There was adequate space for clothes with a wardrobe and dresser in each room. The showers were quite small, but adequate. One large towel and one small hand towel were provided upon request each day. Not much provided by way of toiletries. One small bar of soap about the size of a canadian loonie (I didn't know that they made bars of soap so tiny!) that was only replaced with another at the end of 8 days. Moral of the story: bring your own soap and shampoo! No facecloths, but in the UK this is not a surprise. If you want facecloths, bring them with you to the UK. (I think that they call face cloths flannels, and they can be purchased in some stores if you arrive without and want one)

The beds were hard, but we did manage to sleep on them for 10 nights, so I guess that they weren't impossibly uncomfortable. Just not great. Everything worked well enough but nothing was extraordinary. For the price (44 pounds per night per room) we were content that we had good value.

Breakfast was included and added to the good value that this B&B provided. You could have all or any part of a full English breakfast. This includes sausages, bacon (back bacon, not North American style bacon that they call streaky bacon), eggs, beans, toast and tea or coffee. Also available were boxes of cold cereal, cereal bars, some fresh fruit and a choice of juice. On some mornings I opted for a continental breakfast which included ham, cucumbers, a mild white cheese sprinkled with herbs, tomato slices and olives. On the whole we enjoyed our breakfasts. The owner was quite accommodating. For example, when we asked for cream instead of milk for our coffee, he went to purchase some for us for the next day.

The location is a little out of the way for downtown Cambridge, but Cambridge is not that big, so while not great, it wasn't terrible either. You can mange with it, but as to location, other places to stay in Cambridge are better located. We were visiting family, so the location worked well for us.

Overall we thought that the B & B was a good value that offered everything we needed for our stay. We would stay here again if we were looking for a place in the area.

Room Tip: Bring your own toiletries and facecloths. Don't expect a fancy place, just a fair room for a fai...

We stayed one night. Great room. Nice welcome and breakfast. What a shame that the mattress was like a rock. Take an extra pillow. Not a wink of sleep. Ok if you like a very hard bed. Location about a half hour walk from the centre. Good value for a B & B but they need to sort out the beds.

Myself and my Stayed at this guest house for one night as we had to he somewhere early in he morning. We were greeted by the owner who showed us to our room. It was the family room although we only needed a double bit he was prepared to make up the other bed. The breakfast was hot and lovely and lots of it. The only thing I would say was the bed was very hard but would stay again and recommend it very highly.

Some people seem to expect the same standards from a guest house as from a 4 star hotel. The 4 stars are rated by the tourist board for fulfilling certain criteria. We had a real job to find accommodation in Cambridge at short notice and ended up at this guest house, found through the tourist Board list. We were very happy with the cleanliness, the breakfast and service from the owner. It is a little old fashioned in the decor and we had blankets instead of a duvet. We had no problems with noise from either traffic or dogs (only from 2 inconsiderate other guests). The breakfast was a standard "full English" with cereal, toast, juice and tea or coffee. Why would you need a menu? The room was very reasonable at £65 and we had no problem with parking or storing our bikes. I would visit this guest house again.

We stayed for 2 nights, everything was... really quite average really, food, accomodation, atmosphere, the welcome.... as was the prices... it was just ok, nothing more, nothing less, the stay there never left an impression on me so I guess I will not go back.

all i would like to say about this place is i fail to see how it got 4 stars, room was not up to 4 star standard, shower was dirty, toilet bowl was dirty......breakfast there was cereal and cooked,no menue,so you did not really know what you was getting.in my view,it was run really unprofessional, from the moment you say your name, and the guy says he has to check, thats when alarm bells should have rung.....carpark not ample,if all rooms were full, and all had cars , there would have been a proplem, getting in and out.and then you have the dogs barking at every noise during the night
needless to say i'm glad i only stayed, the shortest of time, and will most certainly won't use that place again
