“A tranquil space......”

The gardens at Clare College are famous and rightly so; a wonderful oasis of calm which can quickly make you forget that you are in the middle of a city. The garden is beautifully laid out with hedges, lawns, flower beds and mature trees so that each corner you turn brings something lovely into view. We visited on a hot day with full sunshine and were pleased to find a bench which we put under an ancient apple tree in a quiet corner of the garden. The approach to the garden from The Backs is lovely too and brought into full focus how wonderful it must be to be so blessed as to be educated at Cambridge!

The gardens were incredible beautiful and relaxing (unless you got too close to the river), especially on a sunny day. I very much enjoyed walking through them and observing all the different species they have. I was also very keen to see the banana tree which bore fruit a few years ago (it didn't this time...).

Worth a visit.

Not a very big garden, but it is packed with beauty. A quiet place close to the river Cam. Admittance is 2 pound for adults.

My wife and I were staying at Clare College and we both were taken by how brilliant this garden is. It's worth some time any day to walk though -- make sure to walk the boxwood lined back path.

delightful to glance at but upon closer examination they needed attention... with a little more TLC they would be delightful
