“Great hotel stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 28, 2012

This was a great find - professional, friendly, attentive staff in a hotel with a decent range of amenities including a pool and a gym. We had a comfortable well appointed room with a comfy bed and nice big pillows. Even although the hotel was very busy, the room was lovely and quiet, and had a comfy sofa to relax on which was a nice touch.

The food in both the bar and restaurant was very good, with decent portion sizes and lovely crispy chips. Was also impressed to see the option of Gluten-free pasta on the menu.

We had room service on the second morning, and it was delivered on time in a professional manner. The bill was posted under the door on the morning of departure which was a nice touch - this gave us a chance to make sure we were happy with the bill before checking out at reception. It is a bit out of town but to be honest, the hotel stay was worth it.

A very enjoyable and relaxing 2 night stay, and we look forward to returning on business in the next few weeks.

Dear Guest
Thank you for your great review of Holiday Inn Cambridge, we strive to keep our standards and services high. I am very pleased you enjoyed all our amenities and that your room was very quiet, we are, as a hotel group, extending our Gluten free range, so please ask when next staying with Holiday Inns.
I will be passing on all these comments to my team to continue to strive for excellence.
Kind regards

This Holiday Inn can be booked for little more than a Holiday Inn Express with all the advantages of a full hotel. The room was a very good size with a comfortable settee. The hotel has a gym & pool available free to hotel residents. The breakfast choice is excellent. We had a meal in the bar which was very well presented.

Although the hotel has only two floors, anyone who would have difficulty in carrying their luggage up the two short flights of stairs would be advised to book a ground floor room as there is no lift.

I have to agree with previous comments that the wi-fi is expensive. I cannot understand how many pubs, restaurants and shopping centres can now provide free wi-fi but hotels are still charging heavily for this service.

There is a 'Park & Ride' about 5 minutes drive from the hotel to the City Centre running approx every 10 minutes. The village of Histon is within walking distance on a good day, or a 5 minute drive - here there are several choices of pubs. Overall a good choice.

Room Tip: Choose the ground floor if carrying luggage up two short flights of stairs would be difficult for yo...

Dear Guest

Thank you for taking the time to write in, we appreciate all your positive comments about the hotel. The good size rooom, our excellent Health and Fitness Club which is Free to residents, the choice @ Breakfast and your Bar meal, all these comments will be passed onto the Team to maintain the high standrds we seek. With regard to no lift, we do have a choice of all rooms on our Ground floor, 50%, but we would offer help with luggage if it was required.
With regards to the comments about wifi we are currently speaking to the owners to investigate the challenges around the charging and what we can do for the customer.
I appreciate your comments on our local area, we are out of the city but very convenient location to the road network.
Once again thank you for the feedback and your time.

Kind Regards

Very clean and tidy in all areas - food very good, especially breakfast. More than you expect from the average Holiday Inn. Wi-fi at £5/hour not good, many Cambridge hotels now offer it free. Pool is very good. Room was quiet although Freeview TV limited ( channel+1 options). Only problem is it is not in walking distance of Cambridge unless you enjoy a 3 mile hike. Cost of Taxi to CBD approx. £14. Parking in Cambridge is difficult and expensive.

Thank you for your positive comments about the hotel and I am pleased the cleanliness and breakfast stood out for you.
I have taken your comments onboard about the wifi and TV channels,we are working with the owners to find a more viable price and package option, than the one that we have currently.
Once again thank you for the positive feedback which I will enjoy sharing with all the team members.

I stayed here for 2 nights while going to Duxford Air show, to the south of Cambridge. Despite this hotel not being in the centre of Cambridge, instead to the north, it's still very convenient to get in to the city centre. Plus, this hotel is a great deal cheaper than central hotels!
The hotel is situated in a perfect setting, near what appears to be a nature reserve in a small town called Histon. The layout of the hotel is also very nice.
There are many good facilities in the hotel, including a pool which is open until 22:00. The hotel is great value for money and I was somehow on the 'All inclusive package', which was absolutely brilliant as all drinks, breakfast and dinner was included.
The rooms are large and spacious with a decent sized bathroom too. There were plenty of towels and bathroom toiletries also. The beds were large and very comfortable, with a choice of 2 different types of pillows.
There is plenty of car parking space around the hotel.
My one and only criticism was that the wifi was expensive.

Stayed here for 4 nights in August. All the staff we encountered were very polite and helpful. Room was good, bed was very comfy, and we had a bath as well as a shower, all usual tea and coffee making etc. No complaints at all. We had room only so did not try the breakfast. We did eat at the hotel one evening. Service was good, food was good albeit a llittle pretentious. Had a few drinks in the bar area, all good.
Hotel is a great base to explore Cambridge. The reception staff drew us a map to show us where the bus stop was fairly close to the hotel and also gave us a timetable. We got a day rider into cambridge on a couple of days, just £3.70. Plenty of parking at the hotel. My only criticism is, as we arrived late into the evening, we drove past the entrance to the Holiday Inn as the signage at the main road entrance is not illuminated and therefore easy to miss so we drove around in circles!!

Good out of town hotel - friendly staff, ok restaurant, bar area could do with an overhaul. Very clean and tidy inside and out. However, the cost of the WiFi is totally over the top (£5 for an hour!), particularly when there is no 3G coverage in the hotel or its grounds.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your feedback on the Holiday Inn Cambridge following your recent stay.

In response to your comments on our Bar area unfortunately the re-flooring was being completed during your stay and so the bar was not being seen at its best. This has now been finished and is looking very smart.

In regards to our Wifi I send all feedback on this on to our Senior Management Team for their review.

Thank you once again and I hope we can welcome you back to the hotel very soon.

Kind regards
