Owner description: Founded in 1209, nearly a century after Oxford University was established, the university was formally incorporated in 1571 and was patterned after those of Oxford and Paris with a traditional course of study based on Latin grammar, rhetoric and logic, arithmetic, geometry, music and astronomy.

One of the oldest higher education establishments in the world, the University of Cambridge is today striving for excellence in teaching and research. The buldings themselves are spread out over the whole city and merit close examination. There are also many museums connected to the University that are worth visiting.

The University of Cambridge is renowned throughout the world for its excellent academic record but not so well known for its wonderful buildings which date back to the thirteenth century! The colleges are spread over a large area of Cambridge, not just on a Campus, and so it is well worth getting a street map of Cambridge from the Tourist information office in order to appreciate the range of sites, buildings and Architecture of the university. A walk along Kings Parade and down Trinity Street is the Ideal starting point for appreciating Peterhouse, Kings, Cais, and Trinity colleges.

The University of Cambridge is a great choice for a day-trip from London. We took a train from Kings Cross and arrived in Cambridge in just under an hour. This place really is incredibly beautiful, although it is packed with tourists in the summer. The bridges along the canal were especially beautiful and provided some great photos. Keep in mind that some of the colleges charge a small fee for entry into the inner grounds. Cambridge is not to be missed, especially on a great day.

If you get chance, go and see one of their performances in one of the college gardens- I took my 11 year old and we had the most fabulous time. St John's, Queens' and King's well worth a closer look.

What a lovely university. The campus is old and distinguished. It is lively and you feel transported in time walking through the various buildings.
