“Go to Trinity instead”
Reviewed November 17, 2013

St. John's college charges 5 pounds for entrance. That's very pricey considering that Trinity only charges one pound. The capel doesn't justify the price difference.

“Evensong”
Reviewed October 22, 2013

The Victorian chapel has a fair acoustic and a good organ and a very pleasant little chamber organ which was used for the Weelkes Magnificat and Nunc Dimmittis.

Andrew Nethsingha's choir of men and boys is about as good as it gets. Together with the Cathedrals the Colleges are the gold standard for choral singing in the UK and perhaps the world.

Go to Evensong as a concert if you must or listen to the music and the matchless words of the Book of Common Prayer as an aid to an uplifting spiritual experience.

“Well worth a look”
Reviewed October 17, 2013

Okay, so I'm biased in that this is my former college, but that doesn't take away from the fact this is one of Cambridge's most beautiful colleges and offers arguably the most diverse selection of architecture.

Look out for the Bridge of Sighs, the 'Wedding Cake' and First and Second courts in particular.

See this one, Trinity and King's and you've done the bigguns.

“Classic”
Reviewed October 15, 2013

Situated across the Cam from the other Colleges gives St Johns a presence which arguably the others do not.....and it does not disappoint. Its classic lines and towers and dome give it a stateliness and a presence in the landscape framed by magnificently mature tress and the shiny greyness of the Cam. A view to behold indeed.

“"the best of Cambridge"”
Reviewed September 23, 2013

A really beautiful and huge college, crossing by the river it is the best college i've seen at Cambridge. The college is very huge and the garden that surrounds the college is very big with a lot of trees. The bridge of sighs is very beautiful, i think more than that of Oxford because it is built in a different scenery, with the river, trees, etc..
