Taken to the restaurant by car it was about 20 minutes from our starting location. I noticed that the restaurant itself doesn't look like the easiest place to reach (Nothing around it) so i guess local competition isn't an issue for this small restaurant.
I went in today expecting it to be half empty but it wasn't it was actually busy which was a surprise.
Upon entering you get the feel of an authentic Chinese restaurant, all the nick-nacks, paintings and collectibles dotted around the restaurant with a small bar and open plan dance-floor which was nice.
Around the corner you find the seating area and main restaurant with around 20 tables which range from two to twelve so there's plenty of room for small or large groups and from the customers seen in today it's also family friendly.
We had a five minute wait until our table was available as we chose to sit at the back of the restaurant opposed to the front where it would be very drafty and people would be walking past with food and entering/leaving the restaurant. We were shown to our table and given menu's to look at while we sat down in our seats.
The room we were seated in was fairly warm but not over the top and the table was clean, there were chopsticks on the table per seating placement and two napkins, one red and one larger white napkin (I presume that one was for the starter and one for the main course?) Anyway moving on from this question we came to the service.
The service was slow, the waitress took our drinks order and either didn't tell the barman correctly or didn't listen to us and got the order wrong. We ordered two cola's, one diet and one regular and a bottle of wine. The wine came out warm with no ice to accompany in the bucket so it would only get warmer and we received two regular cola's so it's not off to a good start.
after sending the drinks back and getting a new cold bottle of wine we ordered our starters.
- Shredded Duck Pancakes and Alderves
We had a member of our group allergic to chili and told the waitress who again mustn't of passed this information over and after eating the starter which was well cooked and rather tasty we found chili in the decoration of the plate which was less than desirable but no damage caused, thankfully. The decor on the plate was fantastic, a flower made from beetroot and lots of salad plates holding the items.
The food and its candle warmer came to the table before the plates though? Not sure this was normal practice for the restaurant but we did get them a minute after the food arrived so it wasn't too bad.
After finishing the starters it took a while for our plates to be cleared, the waitress took half of them and then carried on serving other tables before coming back for the rest. Again the main dishes arrived, hot which was great. Much like the starter the food was very tasty and there were enough of the meat dishes to go around but not a lot of rice. (Two small bowls in-fact which were not enough to accompany the food ordered)
The food again was cleared and a desert plate arrived with a handful of grapes, jelly slices and some melon. A cheap and not very well presented plate of desert. It could have been made into a small flower and perhaps had syrup on it or something to make it look less dropped on a plate and sent out.
The overall feel of the restaurant was slow and not very well organised. Far too many people inside with little staff to cater for them however the service given by the waitresses was polite, very friendly.
Due to tonight being busy I would definitely go back to this restaurant, it was recommended and the portions of food (Other than the rice) were enough to share. The food here was cooked beautifully, perhaps one of the best Chinese restaurants I have visited in a while.
I would recommend this restaurant to friends and family as it was just the service that let the restaurant down.
