Just visited the hotel for a short break. Used Honours Points so not sure what the price would have been. Reception was very polite and welcoming. They gave us a room overlooking the river with lovely views over the river and some colleges and the added entertainment factor of watching the punts go by and the occasional soaking!! As others have said, just water in mini bar but who wants a mini bar when there are so many excellent pubs nearby? 200 yards and you're right in the main colleges. Didn't turn on the TV so can't comment on the number of channels as others have pointed out an inadequacy there. But who on earth would watch TV when in this location?? On arrival they also said breakfast would be included in our booking which was an unexpected bonus. Most of these multi-national hotels have an obsession for Buffet style breakfasts so I usually go elsewhere for a proper freshly cooked breakfast that will be better and very much cheaper. However, as this was free I plucked up the courage to have it at the hotel. Just as I remember unfortunately but it was edible and no worse than any other hotel of this type. Others have commented on the noise but for our visit we certainly didn't have any and slept soundly with the patio door open as I like fresh air when I sleep. Someone has also commented that the toileteries were inadequate (only one piece of soap I think they said). We certainly had no such issue and if we did I would think a simple call to housekeeping would sort this. Only drawback was a £15 charge to use the car park but it was convenient and as it is nearly impossible to park a car in Cambridge was OK. Overall a very enjoyable stay.

rooms nice .. not five star but decent -sized , attractive and clean.. however the friendliness and efficiency of the staff were pretty amazing and made the stay there an altogether delightful experience. Fantastic location by the river ,easy parking and superb breakfast buffet. Can't wait to stay there again. If you don't like it here you're too hard to please !!

As long as you realise you are paying for the location (gorgeous) and extensive parking lot of this hotel (bearing in mind how it is impossible to find a parking space in Cambridge centre) and not its star quality, you will be fine. Its location is unrivalled (banks of the river), the garden beautiful (lots of big shady trees on a very hot day) and private to hotel guests (though students and cows look on at you from the opposite bank as they pass by). It is tucked away down a side street and, as long as you don't get a room overlooking the car park, it is quiet.

But why, oh why are hotels such as this cutting back on things that they think people will not notice in the hope that they won't see the cuts - they do! Specifically - corridors are dirty - this isn't helped by the carpet colour and shade (dark red, shows all marks) but no matter which corridor you walked down no matter what time it needed a good vacuum clean or stain removal. Workmen doing things in empty rooms left dirty tools and debris outside the rooms - they were drilling during the day both days we were there). Chambermaid trollies are left in the corridors most of the day too. Many doors have veneer which is peeling off, paint is chipped, two lights in our room didn't work (we reported them but nothing was done). The bar had no Wourcester Sauce and served port in a tumbler and prices were, as you might expect, very high! Breakfast (plenty of it but all very mediocre) is truly self-service and the area in which you get it is too small leading to crowds at certain times - only coffee or tea is brought by waiters, most of whom are not able to speak very good English - you even make your own toast!

We were attending a wedding - I gather the package included a master of ceremonies (who had met the couple beforehand) who just didn't turn up. The meal however was an acceptable one though with rather mean portions.

The hotel advertises a separate leisure centre though it doesn't tell you that it has general membership so is very busy. We didn't sample it so can't comment on its facilities.

I truly would not know whether to recommend this hotel. At £160 - £250 per night probably not - which is a pity as it has the opportunity to be really wonderful as long as some money is spent on its upkeep.

Location: perfect, on the river and right in the city centre
Service: good, what you would expect from Hilton
Room: clean, nice and spacious, but not much character
Value: we spent £144 for a Saturday night, bed and breakfast, but it was booked last minute and it was a bank holiday weekend; not too expensive compared to what the B&B's in the centre were asking for (and what you get from them). The hotel has on site parking for £15 per day, which is really useful any day but Saturday evening and Sunday, when you can park for free on the streets nearby

Just back from a weekend in Cambridge which I know quite well but have never stayed at this hotel. The location is awesome, the best in the city. I hadn't paid extra for a river view room but in fact we had that albeit sideways on. The room was a very generously size and extremely well equipped with tea making things, ironing board and iron, etc. There was a wedding reception near us and also a college 'May' ball and we were worried about the terrific noise when outside the room but it was very well glazed. The staff were consistently helpful and friendly. We used the pool which is in the adjacent health club. Strangely there were no robes provided but a phone call brought us two lovely white fluffy gowns immediately. Restaurant food excellent and good value, as was the breakfast. We would definitely stay there again. It's just a pity it's so expensive even if you book online. Still with a position like that, they can charge what they like.

Stayed here for a wedding, the reception was at the hotel too. The food was OK - nothing special. We stayed in a posh ground floor room with a great view (the hotel is in a good location) but our room was DIRTY! Like so many English hotels.... There was quite a bit of dust in some parts of the room so it looked like bits of it hadn't been cleaned for ages, and no one had cleaned behind the bathroom door for I don't know how long. Ew. So for a four star hotel or whatever it's meant to be, we weren't impressed. Breakfast was good though.
