We spent three nights in the hotel, just before Easter - a very busy time. Yet the staff was always helpful and friendly.
Combined with the hotel's excellent location (on the river Cam, minutes walking distance from the town center), and the good eating in the hotel and in nearby restaurants, we just had a lovely time.

Room Tip: Take a river view room and enjoy the ducks in the morning

I booked the Afternoon Tea with a glass of champagne to celebrate my birthday with friends. We had done this sort of thing twice before, but all agreed this was the best yet.
When we arrived, we had planned to have a light bite, visit the Fitzwilliam Museum and then return for our Tea. The light bite were amazing sandwiches, beautifully prepared and very tasty. We were able to spend hours in the Lounge watching people walking along the river in the snow.
The actual Tea was excellent, the staff incredibly attentive, especially taking our coats/scarves/hats etc before we were shown to our window table. We were actually at our table for 3 hours!
The quality of the sandwiches, cakes and scone were top class and the staff were so friendly.
We had planned to use the Spa facilities, but we were all so relaxed we chose a cocktail in the Bar instead!
I was particularly impressed with the toilets too, immaculate and spacious. In fact there was nothing to fault.

I don't really understand the negative reviews. I found the staff and hotel really nice. Of course it does look a bit dated from outside, but inside it has beautiful décor and the rooms and really nice and spacious. With regards the Staff you couldn't ask for more helpful team of people. I don't know if it is because I am a Hilton Honours member but everyone looked after us very well.

With regards the bed, it was massive and very comfortable, also the pillows were very good too. I love Hilton Double Tree's and their little touches like the cookie on arrival just makes you feel that extra bit special.

Yes the car park is expensive, but it is Cambridge and everywhere in Cambridge is expensive! don't come here thinking it's a cheap weekend away. Cambridge prices are up there with London, but it's worth it as it is such a beautiful place!

"Average" is probably the best way to describe our experience of afternoon tea at the Doubletree Cambridge. My friend and I had a travelzoo voucher which gave access to the gym and pool, champagne afternoon tea and 12 hours of parking each, which was great value for only £35.00

We arrived mid morning and used the gym first, which we found to be well equipped, with a good range of CV and strength equipment, but rather small. We decided not to use the pool, which looked pleasant, but again was very small. The changing rooms were fine, but cramped and certainly not luxurious.

After a few hours in Cambridge we returned for afternoon tea at 3.30. The sandwiches were very dry, suggesting that they had been per-prepared several hours before being served. The scones were wholemeal and very also dry and heavy. We didn't bother with the cakes. We weren't offered the glass of champagne included in our offer and given that the staff just seemed to disappear, didn't have an opportunity to tell anyone until it was time to leave. We enjoyed our day out greatly, but this had more to do with good company and a day in Cambridge than anything the Doubletree had to offer. What a great shame given the fabulous location overlooking the River Cam. This used to be a great hotel once.....

We endeavour to make all our guests experience a special one and I am very sorry that on this occasion we have failed you. This hotel is clean & modern, but the large bed was hard with cheap pillows. The view over the river was nice but the inground uplights lit up the whole room all night..the drapes were for show and didn't shut.
The staff in the bar and for breakfast were very helpful..charging overnight guests £18 to park the car is plain robbery..it should be free..and you had to pay extra for wifi.

Room Tip: River view , is quiet

Dear Glamorousgranma
Thank you for your recent review, your feedback is always appreciated.
I was sorry to read that despite enjoying the hotel and the staff’s service you did not enjoy a good night sleep due to the curtains system, however, for your information, behind the dress curtains there are black-out curtains that fully open and close, I am sorry if this was not clear enough nor explained to you on arrival by our receptionist.
With regards to you comment about the car park charges, these charges are comparable to other major city centre car parking charges and to that of the alternative option for a guest in using a NCP car park in Cambridge. It is also a very compatible value for many as guests can leave the car from the early hours of the day checking in and for the remaining of the day after they have checked out. We do ensure that these charges are clearly advertised both at the entrance to the car park and also on our own and third party booking websites so that alternate arrangements can be made if necessary.
We sincerely hope to welcome you back to the DoubleTree Cambridge in the near future.

We had reached hotel 45 minutes past midnight and were checked in.
Next morning the reception staff was snobbish and would not answer politely. On arrival for Breakfast we were not helped for specific requirements. I had to search on my own. They offered only orange juice when other juices were available.

The curtains were not closed so due to light could pass in at 6.00am and I was awake, although I went to bed at 2.00am.

We checked out at 8.30am.

I am very sorry to read that some of our staff were not very welcoming or helpful. This is certainly not up to our usual high customer service standards and therefore I apologise for it. With regards to your comment about the curtains, behind the dress curtains there are black-out curtains that fully open and close, I am sorry if this was not clear enough nor explained to you on arrival by our receptionist.

We stayed here for one night as a family of four to visit family locally.

The location is fantastic and we had a small balcony with a beautiful view over Cambridge. The restaurant has a lovely view if the river. If you plan to explore Cambridge this is the perfect setting.

The room was very large and tastefully furnished, and the beds were very comfortable. Our two children were provided with a bed each within our room - which if you travel regularly with two children, separate beds are a blessing!
The room was immaculately clean and showed no signs of wear.

Admittedly we did not stay for dinner as we had arranged to meet family out, but breakfast was quite exceptional - quality and service. Our children enjoyed the American style pancakes (again and again). Service was also second to none, by the lovely Darius.

I have only scored four stars because the cost of parking was excessive at approx. £18 over night - which we were not expecting. Yet if you plan to explore Cambridge this charge is not so unreasonable, but we arrived after 9pm and left by 8am. However, having said that, this would not put me off staying again.

I have stayed on other Hilton hotels and have not very been impressed, but Doubletree by Hilton ticked all the boxes. Well done!

Dear MarlvernUK
Thank you for your review. We always appreciate constructive and positive comments. We were very pleased that you and your family enjoyed your stay with us. Thank you for your kind comments about Dario, I am sure that he will be pleased to know that his work together with the hard work of all of our team members does not go unnoticed. I am sorry to read that we just missed the 5 point score due to the car parking prices. As you rightly pointed out this is in fact a very reasonable price when staying for longer in Cambridge in comparison with any other NCP in the city.
Again, we thank you for your feedback and we look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.
