A beautiful building with even more beautiful gardens. A very friendly welcome. The room was excellently furnished with all that could be needed. Very good bathroom - decent size. A lovely view out towards the woods. Breakfast was excellent. Although there were conferences there as it was midweek, and so the usual lounge area was not available to residents, the staff could not have been more helpful in locating a place to sit quietly and read. Nothing was too much trouble in this beautiful place. Well-located outside the hustle and bustle of Cambridge.

Very picturesque hall in beutiful gardens. Very welcoming staff. Very clean rooms, excellent breakfast... No comlaints at all. The American cemetary is 5 minutes walk and definately worth a walk. Very quiet aswell.. no roads anywhere near the hall.

This amazing property has a long history, and now belongs to the University of Cambridge. Its core business is residential courses, but there are often rooms available for ordinary travellers. These "study bedrooms" are beautifully designed, and spotlessly clean. The food is very good - taken in the panelled dining hall.
When we were there, there were visitors from down the road in Cambridge, and from Hong Kong. The staff were also preparing for a big birthday lunch ...

I stayed at Madingley Hall for 2 nights while attending a conference held there. The place is well-kept, is in a wonderful location, everything is clean, food is good, rooms are well appointed. I simply can't find a fault to write about. The only downside is that you will need a taxi to and from, which costs about £15 one way from/to Cambridge rail station.

A beautiful, largely Jacobean house, which is the residential headquarters of Cambridge University's Institute of Continuimg Education. Rooms, in post-war stable conversions, are well appointed, comfortable and quiet, with good showers (baths in some) and good wi-fi: breakfast is in the Great Hall, with a separate table for B+B guests.
Ale in the bar isn't real (but good bottled is available) Evening meals seem limited to slightly uninspiring bar snacks, which need to be ordered quite early: the Three Horseshoes, just beyond the Hall, is a smart restaurant/pub, but doesn't really cater for the casual/business diner. One needs to travel further afield for a meal which combines comfort and good plain value - any suggestions?
So a beautiful, stylish collegiate-like institution, consistent, good value, with helpful staff, and peopled by wonderfully eccentric-seeming course attenders, who can entertain you at breakfast by arguing about Etruscan Inscriptions or East Anglian Stained Glass. You do feel a bit like an interloper, but the gardens are beautiful, and the setting is spectacular.
Madingley Park and Ride is a good way into the city (2.50 return per traveller), but beware: breakfast (cooked) starts at 7.45, and if you leave for the Park and Ride after 8, it will take you 20 minutes to drive those two miles to the Park and Ride. You can make Cambridge Centre by 9, but only just!
If they want to expand B=B, the Hall might consider offering a bit more in the way of imaginative Bar meals please (it was a very dry ham Sandwich....) and offering more in the way of a B+B Guest's lounge/reading room - you are made to feel you are a bit of an interloper in the Greater Scheme... ("The Saloon is available if not in Course use")

stayed here on a course. Very nice. The rooms are good and setting is superb. Lovely gardens to wander in or read and laze in, if you just wanted a couple of peaceful days. Very well stocked library. Breakfast - great choice. Rooms have digital TV. You can ask for a bath + shower. Bathrooms not swish but perfectly fine. You can stay here for just B&B. Evening meals usually good. You can walk to the village where there is a nice restaurant for a change.
