Had a fantastic day- excellent tour and talk run by the Education Department, Felicity was brilliant and the children were amazed at her knowledge! Nathan was so kind when some of the children struggled with their painting on papyrus!
The only downside was that we didn’t have time to look around the whole museum so will definitely be returning soon!

A fantastic museum, with free entry, but donations welcomed. It has a fantastic art collection, including Impressionists, Pre-Raphaelites and Dutch Golden Age masterpieces. Friendly, helpful staff and a nice cafe. Very well worth a visit.

Worth a visit to see the Greek and Egyptian artefacts and they also have some art from big name painters such as Monet and Constable etc

We visited the museum on a Saturday. The staff were v helpful. It was not particularly busy. However, we came away dissatisfied with the exhibits. Little seemed to be from the last 200 years - where our interest is more directed.
Despite this, we were glad to have visited … and since it is free, it clearly represents good value for money.
Recommended as a bolthole if it is raining or cold. Not recommended if it is a lovely day.

We visited yesterday with our daughter, her godparents and her aunt and we all had a wonderful time.

As a history lover, I liked that they had a range of subjects and my daughter (5) really enjoyed the displays, especially the Ancient Egypt section. The stunning architecture is brilliant for those who enjoy for photography, offering a range of great shots.

They also had talks going on for the 100th Armistice day celebrations and appear to have a range of events throughout the year.

You definitely need a long time to visit everything though!

A lovely museum with well-laid out exhibits and some top-quality paintings.
Furthermore, it's a manageable size - you can cover the whole museum in half a day without feeling exhausted.
It's also in the centre and close to the colleges so easy to pop-in for a short visit if you're pushed for time.
Best of all, it's free!

it was quite a packet of surpise. Loaded with art from France, Italy and I even spotted well preserved pieces from my country India. There is a Virginia Woolf exhibition going on which is very good. Keeo enough time and explore it.Don't miss it .

Loads to see well marked with interesting facts. We didn’t visit the painting gallery as small children really weren’t interested but the rest of the museum was well set out with plenty for everyone to look at.

Fascinating collections ranging from Medeival armour, fantastical ceramics, glassware, sculpture, art - fine and modern - with paintings and sculpture from all over the world housed in a beautiful building
