The term 'spartan' could have been invented to describe the room I stayed in. I booked at short notice and theirs was the only accomodation in the city on a busy weekend - for which genuine thanks - but for £55 i got a tired, noisy room with no trimmings at all apart from a tv, and with the smell of ancient after shave clinging to every surface , including the bed linen. Come on Portland - a helping of new sheets and a duvet and a bedside lamp wouldn't cost the earth surely...

The pub itself is a likable place with the usual food & atmosphere.
We stayed for one night in one of the rooms. For the price it could not be beaten. It has everything you need but it is very basic as the price suggests. We were the for a wedding & so not in there long which I was glad for. The bed was quite old & noisy. The walls were thin enabling us to hear the other rooms tv. There are 3 rooms which share 1 bathroom, meaning you have to wait your turn. The bathroom itself has seen better days but was ok for showering the next day.
Overall I would recommend this place if you want a good drink. If you are only in Cambridge for a night & not going to be in there long then you would be a fool not to stay here as the price is the best. If you're here longer then you would have to have the patience of a saint, earplugs & not too fussed about poor surroundings. Nothing seriously wrong with it but there's nothing that good about it either!

This is a 'live music' venue and we were placed in a room directly above the room the band were playing in. The music, and consequently the vibration it created throughout the room, stopped at around 11.30pm - such a relief! Immediately outside our room was the door to the stairs leading to the beer garden. Every time someone came in or out the door slammed loudly, as did the shared bathroom door due to that door sticking. The room was tiny...although it did have tea-making facilities. The only way I can describe the mattress, is that it was like sleeping on a massive bag of chunky crisps - uncomfortable and noisy. We knew it was a shared bathroom, but didn't realise it was going to be a dank and dirty one - needless to say, we didn't shower in the morning. One thing we did appreciate was that the staff there let us park in the pubs driveway, saving us parking fees.

Room Tip: Lovely pub across road with rooms at same price!

Simple but cosy rooms that have everything you need: coffee making facilities, little mirror, good lighting, small tv. Bathroom not on suite but just outside and equally well appointed. Nice decor throughout. Only thing is, noise is a bit of an issue: Bed very creaky - you'd possibly wake each other up when turning over. I was by myself so that wasn't a problem. Door is also very creaky plus you have to slam the bathroom door to shut it so when going to the toilet at night I woke up people in the next room (there are 3 rooms altogether). Plus my room had a view over the Portland Arms pub's beer garden which was very pretty but also very noisy. The windows ARE effective at shutting out most of the noise and I slept well - with ear plugs and the windows shut.
Because there's only one bathroom for potentially 6 guests, queuing for the shower in the morning was also a bit of an issue. Overall though great for the price: a very charming place with super friendly, accommodating staff. Nice walk over the Green to get into the city centre (10-15 min on foot). I'd definitely recommend the Inn for an inexpensive no-frills stay in beautiful Cambridge.
