Owner description: This heritage-listed Botanic Garden was originally conceived by Professor John Henslow, the mentor and teacher of Charles Darwin. The Garden's plant collections today number over 8000 species from all over the world, displayed within the best collection of trees in the region. The 40 acres of beautifully-landscaped gardens and glasshouses offer year-round interest and seasonal inspiration. The excellent Cafe and Shop are also open year-round. An oasis in the City, this great Garden makes a great day out. Please note our Christmas closure from 24/12/17 - 1/1/18 inclusive.

Take your camera or food, it is a large garden with thousands of plants and flowers, ducks and benches. A great place to go.

The garden is interesting in all seasons, and there is a useful noticeboard near the entrance that alerts you to what to look out for (e.g. the rare Chinese tree that flowered recently). The rock garden, the big trees, and the winter garden are all highlights for me, but the greenhouses and the educational areas showcasing different species and crops are also very good. Look out for the traditional Slovenian hay rack (yes, really!).

Visisted here in the middle of November on a damp and misty day. Not too expensive and lots of wandering around to do. The tea room is pleasent and we had a nice cup of tea and cake. The Glasshouses were varied and interesting. We'd definitely come back again if we were in the area.

The cafe is now huge and get's v busy - but is light and bright and most of the food is made on site, organic and fairtrade. Quiche's are great with crunch pastry and different fillings, cakes and biscuits all delicious. They server coffee and tea in a mug or a cup. Friendly staff. Beautiful setting.

Had a great time even on my third visit to the gardens. It is so great to be able to go and relax near the fountain in the middle. We enjoyed playing cards and tossing a frisbee back and forth. A great day out.
