Description: With the relaxed ambiance of an English country pub, an elegant menu made from local produce and plenty of room to breathe (and park) the Grouse & Ale is the perfect venue for a social occasion or an informal meeting/function that needs more than just biscuits and coffee. The entire bar and restaurant is WIFI and there are plenty of niches to relax in with open fires to banish any winter chills, come the summer, take your drinks outside into our secluded courtyard. We hope that you will feel able to relax in comfortable surroundings, secure in the knowledge that the service, drinks and food will be perfect – whatever the occasion; Sunday lunch, a romantic dinner or a business session.Gastro Pub of the Year - 2010Quite simply, we’re very proud of our food. Our approach to designing the menu, reflects our ethos – do the simplest things brilliantly well. Our daily specials reflect a table d’hôte offering to supplement the a la carte menu along with an extensive, informal menu at the bar. Wherever possible, our menus are created from locally sourced produce and meats.

We arrived late for lunch, out of the snow, the staff were helpful and friendly and the interior was warm and charming.
The menu was varied and interesting so our choices may seem possibly rather boring - venison, fish and a burger. But they were well cooked and beautifully presented.
The real ale choices were local and adventurous, not just the usual Doom Bar or London Pride (though I have nothing against either or them) options.

We really enjoyed our meal however thought the food portions were a little small for the main course (we had stuffed chicken). The service was great and as was the pudding (sticky toffee pudding).

A good place for a meal with friends or a romantic night.

Even though this is our nearest Pub/Restaurant we dont use it enough and its only when you go back you realise how lovely the food, wine and atmosphere are. We had plans to go another local fine dining pub for my birthday dinner but as the weather was forecasted to be bad we decided to stay close to home and have dinner at the Grouse & Ale. All of our courses and the wine were lovely and with the very good service this turned out to be a very enjoyable evening. We enjoyed it so much we went back the next day for lunch!! One of our new years resolutions is to visit the G&A more often and enjoy this lovely county pub.

Visited on 28th Dec for partners birthday lunch. Great welcome, great service ( to start with) and fabulous, fabulous food - all fresh and homecooked - despite being in that inbetween period of xmas and new year. Thoroughly enjoyable experience , the only downside - the waiting staff seemed to vanish after clearing our dinner plates so we gave up waiting and avoided desert and coffee ( we were probably too full anyway!). Will revisit again.
