“Only need a bed to sleep on......?”
Reviewed August 2, 2009

We stayed in the apartment part of the hotel, which I think is a good idea and the rate was very cheap. The apartment was nice but a little bit dirty and we found a number of dead flies in the rooms. The decor also needs a little updating. The garden space was very big but for some reason filled with office chairs, a broken down steam room and a swimming pool with very dirty water. Def would only recommend this hotel if you are just looking for a bed to sleep on for the night. We also had a free buffet breakfast which actually wasn't to bad.

I normally stay elsewhere in Wycombe but due to availablitity problems decided to give this hotel a go. After viewing the swish website promising LCD televisions and free internet connections in each room I was sorely disappointed.

I had selected the non-smoking option when booking but when I turned up the room I was given in the main building reeked of smoke. The room also had not had any significant make over and in no way reflected the picture given on the website. I was intending to do some work that evening and the room had no desk or dressing table as promised on the website.

However, when I complained the receptionist was very helpful and moved me to an apartment with a table. The apartment also did not reflect the standard of rooms shown in the photos but it was clean, and smoke free. The hotel is situated next to a busy road and traffic noise was constant throughout the evening.

We booked very easily over the phone for a cheap room with shared bathroom. On arrival we were upgraded to an en-suite as they were not fully booked. The room was very well furnished and spotlessly clean. We also ate at the hotel and the food was very tasty. The staff were friendly and helpful with our enquiries. We hope to stay again when visiting the area.

We were in one of the apartments and not the main hotel. It looked alright but we had three main problems.

The fire alarm went off due to the steam from the shower. The hotel staff had to turn the alarm off.

A mouse or rat came into the room at night. I heard it rustling plastic bags and saw / heard it running off when it had been noticed. Could not tell what it was as the light through the thin blind was not sufficient.

The toilet flush broke and was not fixed during our stay leaving us without a working toilet.

The main building seemed to be ok but you would need to ensure that your room would be in that building.

  • Liked — Good Thai food.
  • Disliked — Animal in the room at night.

When we arrived at The Buckingham Hotel we were advised we are not staying in the hotel we will be staying down the road and someone will come to show us. We were then told we had to walk back up to the hotel which was about 5 minutes walk for our evening meal.
After we got down the road to where we were staying we were surprised to see we were next to some kind of hostel in a converted garage right next to the train line (which has a train going along it every 2-10 minutes). Once in our room we noticed the toilet was filthy and had to clean it ourselves. It had no curtains and only white blinds that did not keep any sunlight out at all.We walked up to the hotel for our evening meal and we were advised that we had to walk back up for breakfast Unfortunately we do not have time in the morning to be messing about like this we have to get to work; this was not a social trip. So we walked to the shop to get some breakfast things for the morning we then had to walk back to the room we were staying in. On this journey we were confronted by horns from cars and men pulling over to us asking us if we needed a lift! This was very inappropriate as we were 2 young ladies and at 9.30 in the evening we found this scary. This would have been avoided if we were staying in an actual hotel where we had all the facilities (which is what we had originally booked). All night we were kept the awake because of the London train line!
We called the hotel to try to cancel the 2nd night and they said that we could not get a refund but they would put us in the hotel. When we got back to the hotel that evening we were taken yet again to another house next door and the key that opened the front main door also opened the room door where we would be staying which was more like an apartment room. When we refused this room as we wanted a room within the hotel we were taken back to The Buckingham Hotel and given another room. We had seen 3 different rooms in 3 different buildings and not one of them looks like the pictures on the internet! They were not modern or clean in any shape way or form! We did stay in the hotel because it was getting late and it was only one more night. Again in this room the bathroom was dirty, It also had pornography on one of the TV channels which was not blocked from viewing which then made us feel quite worried within the hotel. There were a lot of noise of doors opening and closing all night within the hotel and we could not wait to leave and will never return. This was not a hotel for women or children and most descent men! Perverts would love it though! It felt more like a seedy back street flat and no one was friendly they were intimidating

Hotel is situated some 15min walk from the city centre, and some 30min walk from the train station. Hotel is not so big, but very pleasant and clean. Staff is really very helpful. Hotel has two separate buildings on the same street in distance of some 5minutes walk, no need to take a drive unless you have some heavy luggage. I wasn't settled in the main building, but in the anexe (on the site you always get the possibility to choose, sice rooms in this building are named Anexxe). Room was not so big, but clean and decent, and the house has kitchen and internet facilities.

For the price paid, hotel is really really good one. No difference to other hotels in the same area, which are quite more expensive. Food is deliceous.:-)

Spent 4 nights at Buckinghamhotel in Wycombe...we stayed in a 'luxury' bedsit and I must say....very clean, very cosy, very good price and had everything ( even a washing machine ) but not a phone. We needed a phone to call the receptionist to send us a driver (free) so we could eat our yummy full english breakfast every morning. Had to use our mobile. The staff were great...no favourites...all were great.
And the amazing thing is I only booked the room 2 days before...wow...all the way from Malta.
Thanks guys!!!!
