Large clean room...fine for business stop over. Breakfast adequate and served really quickly by friendly and helpful staff.

The shocker was an incident with a receptionist!!
Myself and colleague were discussing our site visit the next day. I had a call from a senior colleague and the phone reception was awful as they were travelling. Two minutes later the member staff comes into the bar and says" I am not prepared to have you in here talking about me!!" and disappears. We were frankly bewildered. I popped my head around the bar to ask why on earth she had spoken to us like this. She reiterated that she had heard us talking about her.. I politely explained that she was entirely mistaken and received a minimal apology.
Oh my goodness! As a staff member she had absolutely no business listening to our quietly spoken conversations and we were astounded that;
having inappropriately earwigged and misheard the lady then took it upon herself to rudely challenge us.

Proper Fawlty Towers moment!!

Receptionist very unfriendly and had difficulty locating our booking and was then told it was not paid for prior to our arrival yet when if fact it was as I had the confirmation of payment and booking receipt to prove to her yet still adamant we needed to pay. I rang my Dad as he was the bill payer then suddenly the notice of payment and proof surfaced on the system. The room was very clean, spacious and adequately stocked with the usual Tea, coffee, kettle etc.
Sadly we couldn't dine in the restaurant as it was closed, the receptionist didn't notify us this I noticed a sign as we was leaving the desk to off load our baggage.
It's a ideal drop down place to stay with local attractions and Bicester Village a short drive away.

We booked here as a night stop after a visit to the nearby Waddesdon Christmas light festival in Dec.
Reading other reviews, I now agree with most that it is ok, no more, no less. At £60 a night for a large double room with decent shower, drink making facilities and a sofa in the room, that is good value. It is used by a lot of builder types, many Eastern Europeans , they were not too noisy, but our car was completely hemmed in by their enormous pickups and SUVs. Worse, when I got into bed I found a lump under the bedsheet, which turned out to be the nozzle from a builder's mastic gun. Talk about taking your work home! Told reception who just apologised but could not explain why it was in my bed. Did not eat at the hotel as the dining room didn't look too inviting to us.

The hotel looks good from the outside but is in need of refurbishment. The restaurant is closed at weekends and the breakfast selection is limited (don't ask for poached eggs as they're only available Monday to Friday!) Rooms large, beds comfortable and staff helpful. Bar and restaurant very small and not really welcoming, Good base for Waddesden etc.
