Just got back from our meal and am really underwhelmed. Supposed to be a special meal out but just disappointed. No atmosphere, really average food and totally forgettable.

Luckily had voucher so value would have been good, however felt sick after main course (fish) consequently couldn't face any more food. Wouldn't return.

We used a Groupon voucher for an 8 course meal and cocktail each.

The food was excellent throughout - one of my best eating experiences over recent months. The price also included cocktails of our choice - we received large glasses of champagne.

Service was very friendly. I will certainly be returning.

In terms of tips to other diners:

1. Book early - the restaurant was full.
2. Ask for a table away from the door (at least in the winter months).
3. If ordering a la carte, bear in mind that the portion sizes are generous.

Visited on a Saturday in September and it was my partner's birthday and used a Living Social voucher for 5 courses etc. It was absolutely brilliant. Each course was excellent with great choices. The service was very attentive. We have always liked Junipers and certainly will be returning again.

Like many other folks we ate at Juniper using a Living Social offer which our son, who's a chef somewhere else, had drawn our attention to. The offer included five courses and a (generous) complementary glass of wine and with two additional glasses of wine, a bottle of sparkling water and two coffees, £77 in total represents really excellent value for money. Booking was efficient and we were offered a table on a Friday night at a time of our choice. Parking in the neighbourhood seemed straightforward even on a busy evening.

The waiting staff were very friendly and efficient and got our wine to the table almost immediately. There was something of a hiatus before the first course arrived, but thereafter the service was efficient without being oppressive. The ambience is very relaxed and comfortable and although the restaurant was almost full it was by no means noisy, so full marks all round there.

The food was largely excellent, although some tiny tweaks would have taken it to another level. My starter of pan fried smoked haddock and mackerel would have been greatly enhanced if the perfectly soft-boiled egg wasn't almost fridge cold and especially if there was a little more than the salt-spoon's worth of hollandaise. That said, I really enjoyed it, as did my partner who had scallops and black pudding. The second course salad was excellent and crisp-fresh. Mains of hake served with a spanish style bean and chorizo cassoulet and pork fillet were also good. The fish could have done with 2 mins less in the pan but I sent back a clean plate. The side dish of vegetables was more than we could manage. Course four involved cheese drizzled with truffle honey - why?. I like cheese and I like truffles but this seemed an unnecessary foodie gesture that was rather undermined with a couple of Ritz biscuits. Why not a slice of olive bread ?
The most disappointing course was the sweet. We both opted for a fruity creme caramel. I recall that the menu said raspberry, but the dish came decorated with a strawberry. Beneath, the custard owed more to Bird''s than it really should. I know chefs like to stabilise the custard with a bit of cornflour but this went too far.

If that sounds a bit picky I should say that we really enjoyed the meal and the whole evening, but for a tiny bit of extra attention a good meal would have ben a memorable one.
